• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Cold Air Intakes: A Waste of Money

I don't have any dyno results to back this up but when I first installed my Wizaired CAI could notice an immediate increase in accleration and throttle response, a seat of the pants increase. No doubt about it.

Each platform is different, some cars will see gains some won't. Our cars it just makes more intake noise is all.

me personally i want more sc noise lol. I bet we can get OP to add power chips (cuz of awsomeness) lol and sticker mods lol

I'd bet its more placebo than anything.

I'd bet it's not. I don't need a dyno when I can feel a CLEAR and OBVIOUS difference in the way the car performs. Sure, dyno charts should do all the talking but I know my car well enough to feel the difference. I don't feel like looking around but I'm sure there are dyno charts showing the Wizaired CAI does increase power.

Its been proven that a CAI on M90 cars does squat for the most part. Also what you can feel, thats the buttdyno.

ok if your going to get it on a dyno do this. Do one pull with the "normal" intake then right after do another pull with your "CAI" and post both i bet you they look the same.

95% of modified cars here DO NOT use the stock airbox. If there are no improvements in performance then why does nearly everyone here run sometype of different intake than stock? Other than sound of course. Are we all wasting our time?

Its all for sounds, even N/A you get a nice intake noise. That and stock air box is ugly.

Stock airbox = ZERO supercharger whine (on my car)
CAI = nice supercharger whine (on my car)

I cant say that i really noticed any difference but it is truthfully the ONLY thing that isnt stock on my car.

It's probably because you had a crappy filter prior to install.

Then you remove airbox and install something that flows better, and magically it probably did gain some power, but nothing a K&N Drop-In wouldn't have done.

The redesigned box in the 99-03 GP's was actually good. It is the tube to the throttle body that is restrictive.

I see you have an intake on your GP. Any reason to add that mod since the effect it has is generally placebo?

Because supercharger whine.

I can guarantee you that you got no gains from your CAI. People hear more intake and automatically think "OMG my car must be faster."

Also, in order to feel a gain in the butt you would have had to pick up around 10 horsepower or even more. There is zero chance you picked up that much power.

But the K&N box says I get 15 more hp.........
On a 97-98 there might be a little difference, the air tube takes 2 90* turns into the throttle body, but still not enough that you would notice.

Thats what my can of MAF cleaner says lol

newer vehicles will throw a code if they get a good cai by running lean and they need a tune right away to straighten that out, like my brothers 05 mustang GT.
I have a intake and got my first tune years ago and I wasn't running lean at all so doubt it makes a difference.
