rear gxp upgrade

Hey guys,

Still trying upgrade my rear brakes 1997 grand prix looking for 2005 gxp REAR calipers, I am being asked ride control, without ride control, with ABS without ABS, does anyone have part number or some answers?

Thanks

The rear gxp calipers have nothing weird to them. Obviously just about every single car in the market by 2005 has ABS brakes. Ride control can refer to electromechanical, adjustable struts which the gxp did not have and not relevant to the GXP braking system.

Ya that's what I thought, but then alixor said that's to retain the ebrake. I'm not sure, I need to look up some threads. Idk if 04+ can swap to gxp or ctsv rears w.o knuckles, but 97-03 can for sure.

But based off that logic that they are bigger so the knuckle is different and 03 guys can run GXP rear brakes without changing knuckles.. would mean that rear brakes on an 03 are bigger then 04.. right?

I am fairly certain that the only reason for changing the knuckle is bc of the e-brake setup... maybe Dezebe1 can chime in whenever he get on here lol cause he might know too...but i could be completly wrong lol

If non gxp 04+ can use gxps w/o swapping spindles thatd mean 97-03 can too as they used the same spindles

I belive the only difference is the 04-08 parking brake is part of rear caliper in non GXP vehicles. on 97-03 and 05+ GXP its a drum in hat setup

Right.. ya I thought that was the only difference as well.. The 03 mounting points should be the same as the 04 on the knuckles...

As of right know regarding the CTS-V there is no parking brake conversion that will work from any other GM vehicles

OK so now I am, confused again, do I need to look for anything special to do this? anyone have a part number for what I definetly need?

OK so let me try to explain what we were talking about... so the GXP and 03 calipers do not have the parking brake set up on them like the 04+ calipers do.. Instead the parking brake is inside the hat of the rotor.. so bc of this in order for your parking brake to work correctly you need the GXP or 03 knuckle bc the parking brake assembly is part of the knuckle... make sense?

Ok so for my 97 is direct bolt on and it does not matter what options the calipers have as long as they are 05+ GXP, correct?

Correct. Just make sure they are Grand Prix GXP brakes. In other posts there have been members looking at a deal for GXP brakes that turned out to be Bonneville brakes, which will not work because different chassis.

Also FYI! the GXP rear brake caliper sits a little higher where the brake line is bolted to the caliper. Therefore, there is more slack in the line. On my car the rubber brake lines were rubbing on the tires so I had to zip tie them to remove the slack.

LOL, why don't Bonneville brakes work on Grand Prix's? Because they are different chassis? Wow, I don't know what happened that years ago there were a couple guys who screwed up and bolted on Bonne brakes with no problems. Just had to have the Bonneville brake lines.

Oh, also, I have Grand Prix GXP brake calipers, brackets and the required longer GXP brake lines.
$250 shipped in the lower 48 states.
