Question for you Mobil 1 users

Have you ever experienced any unusual engine noise from using Mobil 1? Does the Mobil 1 oil you've tried sound any different in your engine than conventional non-synthetic oil? The kind of noise I'm referring to would be valve train noise that would sound like lifter clatter from an engine that was rapidly losing oil pressure. This Mobil 1 noise phenomenon has been reported by people with all sorts of engines on the Bob Is The Oil Guy forum. However, from reading these 3800 forums, I've never heard anyone describe valve train noise with their 3800 while using Mobil 1. Maybe the 3800 is imune to the Mobil 1 noise phenomenon; we can only hope so. The Mobil 1 noise seems to be prevalent with the thinner grades like 5W-30 and 10W-30; although there has been a few reported cases of noise with 0W-40.

I oscillate between mobile and castrol (and the occasional valvoline), all in 5W-30. That said, I cannot say I have ever noticed a difference (given the problems my gtp has had I always keep a close ear on engine noise). Next time, I do an oil change Ill use mobil and see if I can hear anything!

I ran Mobil1 for years up until recently and have switched to Pennzoil ultra. I heard no significant difference.

Thanks for all the replies guys. Have any of you tried the Mobil 1 High Mileage?

I have not only because it never seems to go on sale by me. I will say that, I think high mileage oils do have something to offer in terms of detergents and additives. I wonder any difference with filter brands. I am thinking small pressure differentials could make all the difference in terms of noise.

The High Mileage stuff is all I use and I've never had any kind of engine noise that was out of the ordinary. Not really sure how much better it is, if any, that just the regular stuff but it works.

I have a 97 GT 3.8 did not notice noise but noticed I used a quart every 1,000 miles with the castrol edge titanium or penzoil ultra this does not happen

Mobile 1 in my 94 Cavalier Z24 at 88K miles, and at 190K, sounds no different. Also my 02 GTP had M1 since 15K, and at 100K, nothing different. Have also used Valvoline, and Castrol Edge Titanium without any noise difference. As for the lifter noise you guys are talking about, I haven't heard anything.

I have the lifter noise when I first start my car. I do notice that it is a little louder with M!. I am trying out quaker state synthetic and it's still there but not as loud.
