Had myself an adventure. Last night I picked up the plugs and wires. Today I go out to get the job done. Do the first two without much problem, other than the wires being partly fused to the plugs. Pull out #5 plug, go to the box of 4 plugs and open it to find only 3 are in there. I continue with the job and figure I will deal with the missing plug at the end.
Had the first 3 done, go to the rear, get 2 and 4 done and head to town to get my 6th plug. Come back, let the car cool, start on #6 and begin cussing at the GM "engineers" that decided putting an o2 sensor in the path of getting #6 out was a good idea. Get the plug out, put the new one in, put the car back together, fire it up, and its misfiring. WTF???
I undo the dogbones again, rock the engine forward with the ratchet strap, and the ratchet strap snaps. Grab another strap and ratchet it forward. Go to take #6 plug back out and it comes out in two pieces. It had snapped right around where the porcelain meets the hex. I decided I was going to take #5 plug out of the front and put it in #6 so I didn't have to rock the engine forward again when I got the new plug. I am tightening #6 again and I hear a crack. The damn thing broke again and I wasn't putting that much pressure on it.
I took #1 out, put it in #6 and finished up. I put two old plugs in #1 and #3 and headed back to town. I told the guy at the counter what had happened and he marked them as defective for me so I didn't have to buy 2 new ones. The only problem was they only had one on the shelf so I have to wait until tomorrow to get the other.
So it sucked that I broke two damn plugs, but it helps that I have spent so much time at Advance over the last 12+ years because they don't mind hooking me up in there.
