Why is my supercharger making a whining noise. UPDATE, pulled belts, it's tranny?

00 GTP with 115k. A couple months ago in the extreme cold of Chicago, I started hearing a whining noise coming from the s/c. I thought it was because of the continous days with temps way below 0. But now that it's warmed up and I'm still hearing it, I need to fix it. This whine increases noticeably with acceleration but drops back down as rpm's drop when the car shifts gears.

Does anyone know what this is, what needs to be done, and what further damage can be done. Thanks...

Also, the whine is more pronounced under load.... much more noticeble when accelerating in gear compared to revving inpark or neutral.

its called a working supercharger they all make that sound if you have an open cone on it its makes more music. IF you dont like your s/c making any noise i would recommend either pulling off the s/c belt or sell the car.

Ummm...... yeah.... maybe you didn't notice that my description said the noise began a couple months ago. So the previous 2 years I owned the car, I must've just toned the noise out and never noticed it........... I hope you're not serious.


Anyone who doesn't point out the obvious and get off on it?

If not it could be your power steering pump or the pump in the tranny. What does your trans fluid look like? And yes a video would be very helpfull.

I'm betting it's the trans pump. Does it sound like it's coming from the driver's side?

Again, can I email someone the video of the sound so someone can post it for me. It's a 35mb mp4 file. When I try and upload it on photobucket, it uploads and then disappears, on youtube it gives me a server error.

Kinda sounds like mine, and I think mine is the power steering pump. Don't know that for truth, though.

Sounds exactly like mine did when an idler pulley was going out.

Pull your belts off and check for play in the pulleys.
