Hopefully a helpful thread for Speed daddy header owners

Okay so here is the deal. I ordered the speed daddy headers and mine did not come with a cat or a choice to get a high flow cat.

This thread has me asking all sorts of questions

http://www.grandprixforums.net/thre...ensor-on-01-newer-PCMs-Things-you-should-know

Does this mean that since i have an 01 , i will run into these same issues if i just run a frozen boost 3 inch catless DP? Can i also just drill a hole into the the DP that comes with it and make a bung to put the 2nd O2 in and be fine? Should i really just be getting a highflow cat? Emissions around here arent visual, just 15 seconds of scanning your computer for an error. I just want to get the most power out of it that i can and NOT have the computer dumping extra fuel than it should (because in reality Not having a cat should increase flow and mpg) Also, any other tips you can give me as far as installing would be great. So far, my list i have is to get TWO 2.25 inch band clamps and TWO 3 inch band clamps and some RTV. Thanks for all your help

If you are not running a cat or are running a "cat" looking thing.....you do not need the rear O2, but, You will probably want to shut that down in the ECM so you do not get CEL.

Im wanting to know that if i just weld a bung in to run a frozen boost testpipe, will it throw a code even if the 02 is connected?

Or option 2. Just hook everything up and not use o2 sensor and have pcm tuned to not see 02 (by doing this will i still get good fuel economy) will i also pass emissions? (we dont do smog here anymore, just visual computer test to see if there is a code)

If you have no actual cat, they rear o2 will throw a code almost no matter what you do. Go with option 2 if you have no sniffer test to pass. If you have to pass a sniffer test, you will need a cat most likely. If the ECM is set to NOT look for that o2, it will not come up with a simple plug in code search by your emissions facility.

Thank you. I think that was the answer i was looking for (it will not come up with a simple plug in code search by your emissions facility).

Just Ordered, thank you!

You will still have the Cat diag thing but all it does for me is go rich lean then normal it'll do it once per cycle after the motor is warm and you have been at a constant speed for a bit. If you touch the throttlenin the middle of the test it goes normal then retests after you even out again

So you are saying it is going to run more rich than normal and hurt my mpg even with the item I just ordered? I feel like the best thing to do is just run open dp without it connected and just remove it from pcm? Im confused. I already ordered that zzp part. I have not installed the headers yet either.

You should be OK with the o2 emmumlator (sp?) That you ordered. But, I would shut the cat test off anyways so you aren't wasting fuel.

I have mine tested in Illinois with the codes deleted for the cat. I run no cat and they have never checked :). Just get it tuned out and you will be fine.

Reading up on headers etc, most don't have an option for a cat. They come with a "race" aka straight pipe, the end piece with the flange typically has an O2 already welded into it.
