Redoing my 1998 daytona 500

There was a small ding dent there, so I sanded it to the metal and applied bondo to it, sanded it down and spray primar over it so I could protect the metal. I posted this showing that I practiced on a small didn't with bondo before I apply bondo on the big area!
 
So is that black the primer? It looked like a patch or something I wasnt sure. If I were you I wouldn't tape out the primer like that it leaves a hard edge and its harder to feather out.
 
Definitely true. If you try to feather out hard lines like that, they will show up later on. If its just temporary protection from a rattle can, it will wipe right off with thinner and that problem can be avoided. Also, any straight line scratches that are primed over tend to appear later as well. Best to use a DA sander or at least finer sandpaper around the edges of the repair. That big dent looks like fun. You're lucky if the pillar isn't pushed in a little. No matter how nice you get that one out, its still gonna be a big pond o' bondo. I've been sanding bondo for two or three weeks now, every day all day. Arms feel like wet noodles!
 
The reason I didn't feather anything on my car is because I'm only using the primar to protect the metal and the bondo. Once I have all the dents pulled out of my car I will be sanding all the primar back down to the metal and bondo, then I will sand the rest of the car and everything will be even, then the entire car will be primed!

You also live in the northeast, I've seen 5 year old cars from up there with more rust on them than my 97 had on it when I crushed it. The factory cat back and mufflers are still sitting around somewhere, and they are perfectly fine.

If you can get under the car just tap along the exhaust with a hammer, mainly the resonator and the mufflers listen for stuff inside.

Its getting there, Ignore the black, that's just primar. I painted it blue just so I could see how it shaped with my car easier. I haven't decided if I want to fix my door yet. If I can find a door from a junk yard, I might just pick a door off a coupe, if not I'll just pull the dent and bondo it to shape.
 


Need to look at how to check panels with a guide coat. Seems like paint them is a waste of time and money as long at the filler has primer on it it doesnt need anything else until its painted.
 
well with where the dent is, the black is very hard to tell where things need to be fixed because of the color of my car, adding the blue helped a lot. Better safe then sorry. I need to make sure my car is 100% perfect. I wont put a new paint job on my car unless its done right. Ill spend the four dollars on a can of paint and two minutes to throw a quick coat on too see the body shape easier.
