1quick's I got tired of fwd but not the 3800 build thread

ive been working on this for about a month now just here and there in my free time, before this i had a 600whp grand prix that i parted out and sold to build something rwd and this is what i ended up with, ill try to let the pictures do the talking but the basics of the car or what its going to be when im finished, l36 st5 cam, double roller, pac 150# valve springs, billit flex plate, sfi balancer t70 turbo, 1quick specail turbo kit, some secret modz, built th400 with reverse manual trans brake vlave body, 9" rear end, full suspension big fuel system, i think thats about it I already have everything but the rear end suspension and fuel system and converter thos will be bought this spring so here are some pictures of the progress so far

on the way home from picking it up

that moment i started to think i was going to have some work ahead of me making a turbo fit infront of the motor

I cut out the radiator supports and drop the lower and make my own upper to stand the radiator up straight

i cut up some power logs after test fitting them to make forward facing log headers for the turbo kit i weld vbands on them instead of the crappy bolt flanges they come with

start fabing a crossover

get er done

down pipe wastegate

intercooler mounted

take all of it back off and pull the motor and trans getting ready to throw a new one together and this is where i am as of right now gotta pick up a short block from a friend and start throwing it together

who is making your converter? You'll like the th400 just keep a tall rear like a 3.29 or a 3.05 in it with some 28x10.5s it will do fine going 155+.

im probably going with an fti converter thats who i had build the trans they have been a great company to deal with so far, I was going to use the 9" for the wide gear options, a local guy with a turbo lsx runs the th400 with a 3.25 on 28's he was able to run 175mph at the half mile shoot out in illinois last june im probably going to stick in that 3.20ish range I wont be doing 170 but i do plan to run it at the half mile and would like to be in the 160 area

I have done similar things, it works. I run a 3.42 gear IIR with 28's

best mph was like 135 at maybe 6200 rpm in a 3700lb 4x4 tank (3800 powered)

Damn this is going to be a sick build! Looking forward to more progress pics. Car gonna be ready by summer?

so i have been buying up parts for this for a while now ill throw a few pictures of stuff up but i have the motor done and 95% of the parts to put the rest of the car together will be diving in soon here are some of the goods i have going in it as of now

the motor is a low mile l36 with a st5 cam st3 heads 150# springs, electric water pump, sfi balancer, sfi flex, ls7 lifters, custom pushrods, ported fbody intake there is probably more but thats the jist of it

fuel system is a aluminum stock location sumped fuel cell with -8 lines magnafuel pump and boost refrence regulator aromotive rails and 127# injectors

the trans rearend set up is a FTI level 4 reverse manual valve body trans brake set up with a custom billet FTI stall, and a dana S60 rear end

suspension is strange coilovers up front, comp adjustable rear shocks with stock springs, founders performance frame connectors, founders lower control arms and panhard rod, uim torque arm with tunnel brace and drive shaft loop probably some more but i cant remember

and I just picked up a precision 7275 billet wheel turbo for it the other day

3800 th400 trans adapter

Very nice love the build? Are you painting the bay to like you did with the GP?

i will probably paint it but i dont plan to strip it down to bare metal first, this isnt going to be a show car the body is fairly rough i plan to fix it but i dont know if i will this year or not

How much power do you plan on making with this setup? I'll be doing something similar except with a T67 turbo (hopefully) and either stock cam with 1.9 rockers or maybe a ST2.

im not really sure on power, it should be able to make 650-700+whp but im not going to push it if i dont have to, my main goal is to be able to reliably put it in the high 9's wich shouldnt be a problem

my white grand prix was 522whp on a stock l26 with a st5 cam and e85 on 17psi with a stattama turbo kit, it was closer to 600whp with the l67 i build and the st3 heads with the boost turned up, a stattama kit will make 500whp all day with a small cam on stock heads and e85

I'm putting together a fake Stattama kit...will have basically the same crap but not the nice tubing and all that. Form and function over aesthetics.

i forgot your doing an sonoma, you could pretty much copy my kit and it should be pretty damn close to working for that thing, the powerlogs can be flipped from side to side and face up and forward you just have to notch out 2 of the bolt holes on each side, cut them off so they are straight and weld on vbands and you have forward facing headers for a rwd turbo kit

My plan was to use Fbody manifolds flipped upside down...then use the Y-pipe and have it modified for hood clearance...mount the turbo in the D/S front where the factory airbox used to be. I still plan on running A/C. LOL
