What is best for my car?? In a pickle..

To start off i have had my Limited Edition for 3-4 years now. It just passed over 194,XXX. I have a pretty bad oil leak i believe at the oil pan gasket. And on top of that my power steering fluid last about 3 weeks before it needs to be changed...if im lucky. These problems have gotten progressively worse. I do not want to get rid of my car I love it to much. My question is do you guys think i should just find a lower mileage supercharged motor with tranny instead of fixing these problems. I have been wanting to convert to SC for so long but now it just seems to be ethical. I just want to know would it be cheaper to engine swap then to fix the problems on my already high mileage motor. Please all thoughts welcome!!:th_thumbsup-wink:

What do you mean your power steering fluid only lasts 3 weeks? Have you tried running an inline filter iirc they are like $15-$20.
If you go with the supercharged engine and trans combo they have to be out of a 2003 car, and it would be best to get the engine harness and pcm as well.

My power steering also has a leak and it drains out almost empty in about 3 weeks. why would the engine and tranny and harness have to be from a 03 i know pcm will have to be

Cheapest easiest thing would be to fix the leaks.

Oil pan can be done with the engine in the car, just gotta pop the motor mounts and get it fanagled the right way.

Really love when people give up on their cars with minor easily fixable problems... Only to buy another problem!

Point is, mileage is realtive, if 194k but all is good except what you describe, then I would rather deal with known issues and fix them, than abandon it, buy another car and start anew with problems unknown!

good luck!

put a new power steering pump in it, and probably a new rack, i would say your pump is shot if its leaking because its probably been run dry. for the oil pan find the leak and see if you can put some rtv around the leak, this would be a quick fix and most likely temporary, but by no means is your car past the point of no return you have a lot of life in your 3800 run it till it blows then put in the sc l67

03 trans will only work in an 03 car. 97-02 have a different valve body in the trans, and 04+ the wiring is different.

Oh by no means am I giving up on my car. I just want a SC motor. I know my motor has life left in it. I've just been wanting to engine swap a or long time now

so the only way for a engine swap to work for me is to get a motor and tranny from 03 SC GP. Nothing else. No buicks or chevys either?

I know I'm not the smartest with these 3380s but I'm trying. Couldn't I just get a motor and tranny from a 02 persay and the wiring harness and do the swap?

Well up until a couple months ago my brother would of been able to motor and tranny swap at his work at a Chevy dealer. But the dealership ran out of business and laid off a bunch of people including him. And my garage is fully capable to do it. But there is a half built car in there now. With a nice built up 3800 motor and tranny. Just sitting on a engine stand. So basically now we have no room until probably summer to do something like a motor and tranny swap

Well, a 200K mile transmission is likely near the end of it's useful life.

That'd be my first and foremost concern.

Ok so I happened to stumble across a 06 gtp motor. For 150. Needs rebuilt. What would I need to fully motor swap over to my 03? Obviously a tranny from a 04 and up right? Wiring harness engine mounts. Is there any goofy thing that would inhibit me from swapping the motor over
