Thoughts on planned setup

There is a good chance that I may be driving a lot more for work and my goals of having a big turbo build may have to be reeled in a little bit. So for argument sake the new build is going to be based around pulling in 35mpg if it's at all possible. Max HP goal will be 400whp. Now onto the setup....

Open Loop Tune
ST2 Cam
Double Roller
Crow 130# springs
Ti Retainers
Front & Rear P-logs
Z7 crossover
Z7 downpipe
Turbonetics 62-1 with .82A/R exhaust housing
Off-road downpipe
Stock catback
Treadstone TR10 IC w/2.5" piping (May step up to the TR12 4.5" thick....depends on how well it fits)
L26 intake with HV3
Possibly a set of ported heads w/stock valves

TEP Stage II valve body
300m
2.93 7/8"
Stock HD diff
Undecided on Converter - Suggestions?

Currently with Catruning kit on it the car has made 346whp (diagnosed clogged converter) so with that taken care of it would have been a better number. Havnen't had a chance to see what it would change to as the trans started slipping in 1st (input clutch piston wear)

Ok, I'm sure there are a few things that I have missed so just ask if I did...Anyone have any helpful suggestion on achieving my goals that I already haven't thought of?

If you decide to use the ST2 cam over the rockers, I'll trade you my 1500 mile ST2 for the ST5 you have.

Roller rockers are COMPLETE garbage on turbo setups... I would consider modded rockers on 130/150 springs possibly... but I wouldnt attempt much on 130s with modded rockers.

The cartuning setup is very underrated. It may "look bad" but the physics behind the funny looking hotside is very sound.

catbacks do not make or break much. A stock 2.25 inch catback will flow 450+whp worth of air without much issue... a cutout can be functional for things and cheap.

absolute biggest converter you want is a 3000.. I would find a stock L36 converter and call it a day, or stay with a stock HD converter if you dont plan on trying to set drag racing records... I had no problems launching 1.7s taking it easy on my stock HD converter.

93 octane? Overkill the intecooler setup. Ported heads and a cam will help alot on 93.

ls1camino - ST2 cam is already in the motor.

darkhorizon - thanks for the advice

Sticking with the ST2 cam seems to be the consensus. Planning on running a Precision re-manufactured stock HD converter as the car will never see the track.

I'm a little jaded with the Cartuning kit as it didn't end up putting the numbers down that I had hoped. Good news is that I was finally able to solve the issue back to a clogged catalytic converter. While I am putting in the new trans I will be cutting out the cat and putting in an off-road pipe.

Yes, I'll be running 93 and from talking with you before I planned on stuffing the largest intercooler possible into the car.

Turbo cars want as much spring pressure as they can get. Heavier roller rockers with more aggressive ramp rates will effectively make your valvesprings weaker.

I run stock also. He is completely right on this. Some of the biggest builds run stock rockers.

I used to run 1.6 RR back in the day and one went south on me and after doing some research and calling MattM they are all using stock rockers on some major turbo builds.

I'm on stock rockers also.

I would go with the ST2 cam. I'm having sucess with it and it's not to agressive for a DD. If you don't plan on racing like you mentioned then go with a Precision remanufactured TC. No need to spend crazy money for one.

THe setup you're looking to do looks pretty good for a DD

Seems like my plan was pretty spot on and after taking out a few of the things not needed it should be a rather budget turbo build on the car.

Also just found out that the turbo that came with the kit isn't a 60-1 it's actually a Turbonetics 62-1 BB with a .82 A/R.

short of running slicks all the time.. just rock that and dont buy anything else.
