Power Steering issue

Power steering pump went dry don't know how long is been that way last time I checked it was sept (before you yell at me, you folks know what a PTA it is to get to that. Especially when the stb is right over it plus we been in single digit temps) its making a groaning noise should I just refill it or should I put some kind a sealer or something special in it.
 


A stop leak type fluid can work.

Since it's been run dry you will likely get alot of air bubbles in the fluid. It's best to fill it some and run the car with the cap off and turn the wheel side to side, lock to lock to move the fluid around. Helps to have someone with a flash light watch the fluid, then top off as needed.
 
a funnel with a hose on the end of it works well for filling the pump. id look for a leak, something is wet under there.
 
rack failure is very common... Look for leaks in the boots coming off the ends of the steering racks by the tie rods.
 
If it's leaking somewhere besides the hoses, dump some Lucas power steering seal in it. Helped me get by for a while. Being cold as it is you may want to warm up the bottle of Lucas before you try pouring it into the PS pump as it's already pretty thick to begin with.

Ditto THIS ! Did the same thing and, so far so good........
