Fuel System Cleaners may not be snake oil

Should you replace just the sending unit? I figured you had to replace the whole fuel pump assembly or that it was a good idea to?

I didn't, fuel pump was working fine. It just clips onto the side of the unit. Unless you want to pick yourself up a whole new assembly, it will be quicker but much more expensive.

Wbs sells them for like 140 I think. I would do the whole unit just because of almost 140k on the pump

for the 20 bucks it cost for the dorman sender switch, id put that in, if the pump dies later on put a new pump in, just the pump is like 30 bucks on line. reuse your canister over and over, its what your paying for when you buy the whole set up.

Alright I wasnt sure if I should replace the whole thing or not. With my luck, I replace the switch and the pump would die soon later.

order a new pump with the switch, problem solved. your 50 in the hole vs 140 or more for a whole new canister with all new parts.

the canister never goes bad, its the sender and the pump that go bad, and both can be changed easily enough.

This guy knows what's going on......E85 cleans everything!! Watch your exhaust tips get cleaner and cleaner over time...kinda crazy

Where are you finding these prices at? JW, I just checked AAP and RockAuto. Havent looked at Amazon or Ebay yet.

E85 will clean the **** out of everything. Screw spending money on fuel additives

For the most part, I agree. Some people waste money constantly using additives when once or twice a year can help. Won't E85 screw up something in a car not designed for it? JW cuz I have been doing some reading on people asking what fuel pumps, injectors etc they need to run it.

Alright I got it. I don't know how come it is so cheap? I am a newbie with ebay, never trusted it for some reason. Amazon is pretty much where I get stuff online.

thats what just a pump costs, ive never spent over 30 for one. performance pumps go up in price of course.

amazon is ok too, you'll find something there. for close to the same prices im sure.

to swap the parts is like silly easy. well worth the 100 dollars your saving, or more. if you spent more then 30 minutes working on it i'd be surprised. (swapping the parts that is)

Alright thanks for the help, again, Scottydoggs. It is something to think about to do once spring/summer gets here. Cant work on a vehicle when the weather is below zero out. Although I'm sure some people still do haha.

looks like your logging your miles for a while then. i hate the cold.

order up your parts, that way you have it ready to go the next warm day.

Well...my inaccurate fuel gauge isnt the end of the world. It is just annoying every 200 miles my fuel light comes on and my gauge is on E.

i drove with no cluster for over a month, i used my gps to log my miles, and went by 10 mpg as the avg, and i never ran out of gas. (i drive all local)

so the rule was if i put 4 gallons in, i knew i were safe for 40 miles. add more before you run out.
