LIM fix NIGHTMARE!!! Now I need heads Ugh!!

Good lord where do I start....PLEASE READ OR SKIP TO THE END I NEED HELP SOURCING SOME L67 HEADS TO GET MY CAR BACK ON THE ROAD. Been away from the GP scene since about 08 when I got in a 20 car pileup in Milwaukee the day before thx giving and my Silvermist cam'd 3.0 beauty got totaled out. I picked up a 2002 GP GTP that MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE 98,000 on it.

I got the car home and after driving it for a week and checking it over it was apparent that it needed some basic maintenance and the LIM gasket needed to be replaced. So my buddy and I dove into it and as we pull the supercharger I see on the underside of the supercharger snout and back of the supercharger there is a serial number on it in paint marker. Then I see what looks like paint marker on the rear valve cover. There are only a few smudged numbers left of what looks like another serial number and you can tell someone tried to remove paint marker with some kind of thinner or mineral spirits. PRETTY SURE THIS CAR HAS A SALVAGE/JUNKYARD ENGINE and the seller failed to mention that no surprise there. So at this point I make the call to dig in a bit further and remove the heads. Thxfully no chipped pistons. The heads are pretty gummed up and it looks like it may have gotten pretty hot so I bring the heads in to get cleaned up and magnaflux..........GUESS WHAT......both heads are cracked.

I cannot find any heads locally and looked at the ZZP remaned heads but don't see a L67 option can anyone point in the right direction to source these heads so I can get this baby back on the road.

Thx for reading.

where are the cracks? in the middle of the valves? if so run em, they are all cracked there.

x2 its fairly tough to find a head without at least one crack between the seats....its a royal **** finding two low core shift heads that are uncracked.

the water jacket is no where near where the crack is...never had one fail a pressure test

yep the cracks are between the valves. I plan on installing my s1x cam and 3.0 pulley and supporting mods from my old setup so Ill really be ok running those heads??

should be just fine. every one who gets them checked finds those damn cracks. they still work.

just clean the heads up real good, the one is ugly for sure lol

good time to have them rebuilt while they are off. port em maybe.

the TR has two cracked seats and we made 608fwhp at 13to1 afr without any issues...i couldnt find anything worrisome via a cyl leakdown test

LIM fix NIGHTMARE!!! Now I need heads Ugh!! UPDATE

Big thx to PokerBlakeB He gave me a very fair price for his set of heads and I started to put her back together today.

Decided to try the speed daddy headers as well. surprisingly no issues major issues with them. I have plenty of clearance between the radiatior fan/shroud. The only thing I had to really do is put a few small bends in my tranny dipstick tube.

The heads before they were cleaned up.

Head and intake back on

.
Speed Daddy headers and the black valve covers that came with the heads (I also put the oil filler tube on the rear valve cover for a cleaner look.

Hopefully tomorrow I finish the top up, install my wideband, and HPTune the shat out of it. WOOT!! WOOT!!

YAY STUFF!

Looks good. If you havent already, make sure to clean the headers really well of fingerprints and oils so they dont burn into it and make them look like butt.

Thx I heard that you need to wipe them down being firing it up. I was thinking some windex and a rag???

I know I'm a little late to this, but that's the common crack and you'll be fine.

Somehow I haven't seen that crack in any of my 3 sets of heads. Lucky for once maybe. Assume it cracks there because there's no coolant in that area so it gets hotter.

I've got 2 set's of heads (one set from a regal at a local u-pull-it that had 92kmiles) the other on my 178k gtp i parted out. I read about the cracking from posts on facebook groups, and went to check mine out just to see if mine were, just for laughs. One set was cracked, the ones with 178k, i could nearly fit my fingernail in it, the other set didn't have anything noticeable

Yep that was where the crack were. So I got it all finished up last night here it is BUT THERE IS A CATCH WTF!!!! there is always a catch when I wrench good lord.

I decided to painted the S/C with some hi temp ceramic paint and plan to do the usual dogbone/hood mount red as well.

SO HERE IS THE CATCH.......Im backing down my driveway to take it around the block. When I hit the brakes to sow down at the end of my driveway the pedal goes right to the floor!!!!! One of my brakelines blew out. Now I have to fix that Ugh!!
