Any guys who've done the 5 speed swap left

My research into the f23 led me to beleive that It would need custom length welded axles which I didnt want to do. If this was not the case i would LOVE to do the f23 being that parts are still available for it and it's not that hard of a transmission to find.

The hardest part of doing an f23 swap would be that I can't find a documented case of the swap being done into a 2nd gen w body. I suppose its the same as doing a fiero the only differences would be the axles used and reprogramming the pcm for the VSS. I guess somebody has to pioneer it. Lol. I guess i will start doing some more research into the f23 swap.

So as far as my research has gone as of now the axles from a fiero have the same number of splines on the hub side as a grand prix. But the part that sits in the hub is square on a fiero and tapered on a GP which I could see causing problems. I have a picture for comparison.

Other issue is going to be the lengths. The Fieros are 68.9 inches wide while a GP is 72.7 inches wide. I'm not sure where this is measured at but i'm thinking its safe to say that 3.8 inches difference in width is going to be a little too much for the axles to be extended.

Currently i'm looking at some other cars that came with the 282 transmission to see if i can find some longer axles with the same spline count.

I'm still not sure about those squared off fiero axles fitting in the tappered GP wheel bearing hubs.

there is nothing really easy or really hard about the swap, you do need an oil filter adaper and such, and paitence, and car knowledge- if you have never swaped a trans, then you will not suceed.

i do have:
a modified reatta oil filter adapter
stock brand new clutch and pressure plate
getrag 284, mount, ect
modified clutch hyd.
shift cable

i do not have-
clutch pedal - this is easy, you can use a g6 or newer cobalt one for an easier install then how i have done in the past by mounitng it directly to the firewall plate
select cable - i have one that needs repair, can be done, im not willing to do.
flywheel- napa/ autozone/ or i can get you a aluminum flywheel (used)

shifter, i dont think i have but id have to confirm

If you still have this when I get back to the states, we might have to talk. Won't be for about 5-6 months though...
