e85 mixing no mods

damn guys read the first post... wasnt trying to start fights. and im WOT on my car every day lol i drive my car hard as hell. iv also used scanners to monitor my engine for Kr and have never once had it detonate on me. my car runs smoother and has more get up. i was looking for people who have done this with a 3800. there's thousands of people all over the place that do this but i was interested in my car. also watch the youtube video i posted in the link before you start fighting with people....

The fights are well justified when people say wrong information. And I'm sire if you saw actual data including injector duty fuel trims 02's etc in real time you'd be a little more concerned with dumping e85 in your car. Sure you can do it part throttle all day long built would not personally try anything in the p.e/wot department. Good read though man

Why not?

you realize that every time you go get gas there's 8%-%12 ethanol. Our cars can easily run the ethanol it just the amount before problems. iv read people just go ahead and run e85 with no mods but i understand gas and ethanol are different so i just add a little more then the gov already does. The gov only puts 10% in because there are still older cars on the road that would react negatively to to much ethanol but newer cars with computers and sensors all over the engine can adjust to the change in fuel. it can tell if there's to much fuel or not enough fuel and adjust the air intake and injector spray accordingly. my car does not have a carburetor, it is fuel injected. Im not a expert in tuning or designing cars or anything but i do have an understanding on how the engine operates.

If your car isn't tuned for it, it will run lean. What do you fuel trims sit at with that mix? The ECM can compensate for a fair amount of alcohol but if you get it too high you will get hard starts and obliviously a check engine light. As far as power goes you should actually get less... Adding alcohol to gasoline lowers the BTU which is the measurement of energy fuel produces. That being said it also raises the octane, but octane is no indicator of how much energy gas will make. However higher octane does allow for greater engine improvements such as compression/boost and timing adjustments.

a few highlights

Q: What type of performance can I expect from making the switch to E85?
A: It has been our experience that E85 with its 105 octane rating and high tolerance to detonation is superior to premium pump gas and equal to and in most cases better than 110 octane race gas. We picked up a tenth of a second and 2 to 3 miles per hour in the eighth mile after switching to E85 from 110 race gas and our engine runs 20 degrees cooler.

Q: Why should I switch to E85?
A: E85 is a renewable fuel source that is also environmentally friendly. Its performance is comparable to race gas at a fraction of the cost. Your engine will run cooler and your ETs will be less affected by atmospheric changes. E85 is not corrosive like methanol and does not leave carbon deposits like gas so maintenance is reduced across the board. With the proper tune-up your oil stays looking like new.

What about them stating multiple times that you need to up the flow by 30%? They are using carbs which are easy to rejet. You can only rely on the ECM, every car varies a little but 20-25 is about the max it can add. It also produces less energy that regular gas and that is why you need more of it. So worse fuel milage for the same power...

There is nothing wrong with using it and I agree there are benefits. It will not hurt your engine as long as you make some adjustments or don't over do it on the mix.

So what are your fuel trims like?

all these pics were taken of my car after about 5 mins of running. it is currently 20 degrees outside. the pics were ether at IDLE or 3,000 RPM

i wish i could say witch is witch (idle or 3000 but if you know what your looking at you should be able to tell) im probably around 60ish% ethanol right now and 40% 93 octane.

Nothing in those scans surprises me, and it appears to be operating just as it should for the amount of ethanol you're running.

FYI tourqe does not have the frame by frame data to give you 100% accuracy. Rely on it if you want too. But know that's its not the gospel from your engine

Prob should of posted these sooner huh? Lol then maybe it would of been a calmer thread.

Uh, am I the only one here that noticed the +16.4% LTFT and only 9 in/hg of vacuum?

Isn't he running super lean and probably has a vacuum leak?
