New Chevy SS (G8) Thoughts?



Awesome for what it is but the price tag scares me there's several other vehicles I would purchase before this.

LMFAO people should start rebadging G8s..........
Seems like that's what makes the 10k price increase! What a joke this will be a very low volume car.
 


Im not a huge fan of any of the new cars there coming out with, car makers have no taste anymore... Its ridiculous this is what the future is coming to and its sad. Not to mention the price increase on cars year to year
 
It will be a limited run as I'm fairly certain they only brought it in for NASCAR. Chances are highly likely the SS will be discontinued in 2-3 years.
 
yup and why in the hell cant a domestic make something like a BRZ or FRS (even Nissan is playing catch up for a competitor in that segment) all 3 automakers have a ton of engine options it could used and for the love of god most importantly well under 30K!!!!!!!

If you have to pay UAW wages, then yes, your cars will cost more than building them in Mexico.

I'll never be able to buy one new, let alone used before they are old and breaking down because of all of the electronics.

Therefore my opinion does not matter, as I not the intended customer.

Add to that, it's not coming to Canada at all.

So pretty much you get a vehicle that is trying to give you a similar level of features as say a Volvo S80 Platinum, with an extra 100+ horsepower, for less money. Look at comparable 5 series. Look at all of the euro offerings in that market. Or not, because they're even more expensive than the SS, thus would not be on your shopping list in the first place.

Now lets look at the other domestic competition, the 300C and the SHO.

Whelp, the 300C is out. 5.7 doesn't make as much power, but it is somewhat cheaper.

SRT8's start around where the Chev SS is. Add back in the Nav and premium sound, it's back up to 50.

SHO doesn't make much power. But it comes out to be more comparable in price to the 300C.

So here's what I'm getting at: These cars aren't for people who are broke and want to go fast.

They're for middle aged people who are established and looking for something to remind them of what American cars used to be about. Something with a fair amount of power, that is comfortable enough to haul the family around the country in.
 
your justification should make you a politician, still cost way too many pennies!
And yes if your not buying new euros have a ton of cars to offer instead.
 
For that price I could a buy comfortable reliable daily driver and build a really fast toy to play with...
 
It all depends what you're willing to settle for.

If you want a warranty and are okay with an econobox, or even a mid sized car, there sure are plenty of great options for much better prices.

But if you want to suddenly know why Cadillacs are so much more expensive than their Chevrolet counterparts, you clearly haven't been paying much attention to the car market.

I would love to have a barebones car with a manual, V8 and cable throttle. But it just isn't going to happen anymore. Once upon a time, that was considered a sports car. Now that's considered a classic car, a car to take to car shows, not to drive.

It's like offering someone into days cell phone market a first gen sat phone. No one would want it except for those who just wanted to be able to call anywhere, and didn't need the ability to check their emails, facebook, twitter, the weather, the latest gossip, their bank account, play some music, watch a video etc.

People want technology. Car enthusiasts seem to be happy with electronic fuel injection and ignition. Anything past that, isn't worth the hassle.

On the topic of the BRZ, it's very inexpensive sure, but the power simply isn't there. Don't say turbo kit. The point is, with a full manufacturer's warranty, as delivered from the factory. If you want to play that game, the ATS 2.0T RWD, manual cars are what you want. Throw the Pfadt turbo kit at it and enjoy.
 


LOL considering the ATS even that pales in comparison to what the BMW 3 series has to offer especially considered in aftermarket options..............

Cough Cough or a Diesel BMW 3 series that makes a mountain of TQ compared to the gas counterpart even though they are super hard to find!

Edit wonder how a new SS price compares to a new CTS Vsport considering the Vsport has AWD and twin turbo........
