Protect me from Michigan weather

I just got a GXP that was driven in Texas all its life. I will be driving my wifes car as much as possible in the winter time but the sad truth is that I will be driving my GXP in the snow. Snow is bad here in Michigan for cars because of all the salt that gets put down. What is the best way (besides parking it) of protecting my current car from the elements. I have heard both good and bad about Ziebart. Some say its the best way to protect. Others say the potential for damage because of all the drilling is worse than letting it rust. The previous owner took good care of the body so I want to keep that shine as well.

Simply put I need some advice. Is there something I can apply myself? Should I steer clear of places like Ziebart?

I appreciate the feedback.

wash and wax it.

then wash it fairly often in the winter to make sure the salt gets washed off.

otherwise you can undercoat the frame/body/fenders...but i find that washing the car is pretty simple all in all.

What kind of wax would you suggest? Would a hand power wash hurt the wax or how about one of those auto washes?

I would like to undercoat without the horror of drilling.

Touchless car washes wont hurt it, nor will a wash you do by hand with those pressure washers. Just don't point the thing 3in from the paint.

Any regular car wax will do, just choose your brand.

Buy my car and then you can have a winter beater which is my dd! Lol winter wasn't too bad last year here, but feel like it will be this year since we are already getting snow and it is freezing!!!!

I just prepped my car for winter on Sunday. The best kind of wax would be more of a paint sealant. And to get the best results I would clay bar your car before you wax. I use Auto Armor. You can usually get it done at a good car dealership but I got to warn you that it is pretty expensive. I got a take home kit so I can re apply about every 6 months. http://www.ecpinc.net/

Your car looks great. Seems you have put alot of work into it. Thanks for the tip.

The farmers almanac is calling for a crappy winter. The December outlook seems to say that we will not get much snow. I remember a year ways back when it did not snow till two days before Xmas.

Well I'm hoping for some snow! Where about are you at? And made me happy seeing salt down at my school when it hasn't even snowed yet -_-
