Grand prix GXP eating cv axles.

I have a 2008 gxp, i replaced the CV axle on this car about 3 times in the last year. Ive used 2 different brands with no luck. Anytime ordering these things for this car, its crucial to count the splines or measure the diameter of the shaft going in the trans (retards at rockauto, autozone, oriellys, etc etc will ALWAYS give you the wrong one, the cv axle for the 3.8s)

Im not sure if i should pull the trigger on getting an ACdelco right hand cv axle. its around 250 bucks from amazon. the part number im getting is this 15850525 if anyone can verify.

I dont want to go reman, considering how many times ive changed these already. ive used EMPI and surtrack from rockauto, havent used A1cardone, but dont see a point if the last 2 didnt even make it a year (or less then 10,000 miles)

Anyone have any other insight? The damn car is stock and cant even hold these things together. recent alignment, tires, and wheel bearings on the front.
Thanks

I used advances and haven't had a issue but guys recommend using Napas brand and heard nothing but positive things about them.

I have Oreilly brand and non problems.

And Oreillys are great ones and they had to special order mine and they great

4fingerdeath- last time i looked at the mounts when I replaced the latest CV axle, it looked fine. Had someone in the car putting torque on it and it didnt seem to move much. I guess it wouldnt hurt replacing them.
Should I just do the passenger side? Ive added poly mounts to the upper dogbone and such. Car has around 97,thous which doesnt say to much.

Dirtdog and Redcomp- maybe ill take another look at them. I went to advanced way back when and special ordered the right side about 3 times. They kept giving me the wrong one and some CV axles were from wrong cars but were in the right box. (needless to say i gave up on waiting) lol

I usually dont even buy from Napa, since the guys that run the closest one to me are buttmunchers and plain a**holes..

Advanced sucks. They sold me wrong one and have the wrong part number in their computer but swear I'm wrong and their right

X2 on screw advanced I also wonder if the lower mounts on your car aren't shot also I'd say try the a1 cardone from OReilly and make sure your tq down the nut on the end right!

Personally, I plan on contacting RCV or a similar company to rebuild mine when the time comes. They specialize in high power, high abuse shafts. They dominate in off road racing, but work on other applications. I can't imagine hey wouldn't b able to rebuild my stock shaft to hold up for a long time.

I've never really had trouble getting parts from any parts place.

You say 3.8's.. but which 3.8 are you ordering it for? That might be the issue.

There's no need. Turbo gxp's don't even have a issue with CV axles.

3.8 has a different diff cover than ours. Making the CV longer.

Go with duralast gold ones I've never had any problem with those

No no, they keep giving me the cv axles for the 3.8 instead of the 5.3 (smaller diameter compared to the 5.3gxp diameter axles)

Maybe ill give the napa ones a try. I also went under my car tonight, i ruled out some parts that i thought that could contribute to the noise. The cv axle has play going in and out seems like closer to the wheel bearing and not near the transmission. It doesnt move up or down/side to side, just in and out if that makes sense? (the wheel bearing was just replaced and torqued to proper spec)

Looking at the motor mount again, it seems a little wet which if it was hydraulic filled, that could be why>? But the wetness seems to be high up?
also my tierod seems to have a little play when moving the wheel at the 3 and 9 position, no play in the 12 to 6 position..

Edit: the wetness could be from when i pulled out my CV a few months ago and some trans fluid is still on it? its hard to tell

this just happened to me. Axle from NAPA is 2 inches shorter than the OEM one I took out.

Oh well, what a PIA. I am going to see if advance auto has one that matches exactly....if not, I am going to bite the bullet and get an OEM one.

LOL this thread is almost 3 years old. ;) OE are the only ones that will fit correctly, I went through these issues also. Morads has used oe axles for about $65. I bought new ones but they are $200 each
