When people have no idea what they are talking about when it comes to cars

So I am considerably more knowledgeable about older cars than I am about newer cars like the grand Prixs we own. I don't know how many of you watch Graveyard cars on TV, but I like them on Facebook and they had a contest where they put up the passenger side mirror of a vehicle and asked for the year and correct color. There were over 600 comments and more than 500 were from people who had absolutely no idea what they were talking about. graveyard cars focuses exclusively on Mopars and so many people were saying gto, camaro or any other car they have ever heard of. Just some food for thought. By the way, my guess is 1971 Plymouth 'Cuda in "Hemi Orange"

Is that really a guess or as you say.. you know your older cars. Back then.. slight differences would be found in stuff like that.

I can tell you what year a Corvair is from a glance. I've taken them apart so many times and put them together I could do with my eyes closed. I had engine/trans removal down to a few hours.

I know where you are coming from when people have no clue about cars and they just say anything to look smart.

GTO Orbit Orange, which was used on the Judges is close to the Cuda's Hemi Orange. A major difference between the GTO and the Cuda mirrors would be that most of the GTOs came with chrome mirrors. The ones that didn't have that same early 70s conical shaping.

You have to realize that most "Car enthusiasts" are "Casual car enthusiasts" to where they don't diversify themselves. They will stick to one manufacturer and get to know one specific vehicle. In older cars a lot of parts were designed to be almost the same between manufacturers as this cut costs significantly. That is also the reason that many parts were interchangable between models.

Last night a guy is test driving an 08 Impala we had for sale. He knows the trans was swapped, brakes were done etc etc. He pins the wheel on wet leaf covered road and one tire pushed a little. He says to me "That's a tie rod, if you knew cars, you'd know that's a tie rod" I looked over and nicely mentioned that I checked them when I had the cradle off to do the trans swap. He looks over and said "yeah if you knew about cars, uh.. you do know about cars". I kept looking at him with a "my first time" look.
