Opinions on a 2005 Buick Lacross CX?

Mother is possible buying an 05 Lacrosse with almost 147k on it. Here it is. http://www.suskiusedcars.com/web/used/Buick-LaCrosse-2005-Flint-Michigan/10304289/ My concern is the high mileage, they said they would replace a wheel bearing with the price as shown. After she test drove it the guy said like 5200 or something like that. How do those Series 3 3800's compare the the Series 2 in my GP based on like reliability and such. Never really had to mess with one before. Its this or a sunfire with like 120k on it for 3k, and she won't get a GP because she knows the issues they have based on me fixing my car.

For the money and the mileage I am sure she can do better. The series 3 is a stouter engine as it doesn't have the intake manifold coolant ingestion issues as the UIM is made out of aluminum instead of plastic.

That's what I'm thinking. She said the guy had someone offer 6.5k for it, but because she found it online its cheaper so he won't go down on the price. I'm pushing for her to pass and find something else but my grandpa is adamant its a good car because its newer than some small sunfire she found.

04 and 05 have plastic intake gaskets......

Make sure they have been replaced, then the only real concern is the transmission.

Shes going at 9:30 tomorrow with my uncle to check the car out more lol. I told her to look for the transmission fluid color and engine oil color. She said the dealership just got the car and wouldn't know about any fluid changes or anything. I told her to stay away based on mileage and the fact I'm 95% sure the tranny fluid has never been changed. I guess the guy went back down to 4950. BUT WHAT CAN YOU DO I tried. :c

She's a girl. Tell ya what.. it's likely going to be a fine car for her. She won't hotrod/beat it as badly as a guy might with a GP. Do the maintenace for her and smile that she doesn't realize she bought the "Regal replacement" in that timeframe.

And you know how I feel about the Regals :th_thumb-up:
