How do you access the rear of the stereo 05 GP GXP

I purchased a conversion kit to play an MP3 player through my stock stereo. I was just wondering if anyone had a how-to or any good information on how to get to the back of the stereo in a 2005 Grand Prix GXP. Thanks for all the help.

typically you take the dash trim off, most cars its got push clips holding it on, so grab a corner and pop the clips, then un bolt the radio and slide it out, un hook the plugs on the back of it.

Youngstown Area. Is there a special tool to pop off the clips? Or should I just use a screwdriver. I just don't want to end up with broken clips everywhere and a bunch of extra screws when I'm done with it lol.

It's all clips, use a small flastnose screwdriver to pop the ring around the ignition, then use your hands, and pop the bottom of the trim and work your way to the top of the trip. Carefully when you unclip the top as the DIC is connected by a short electrical connector, un-plug it from the dic, discard the trim, unscrew the radio, pull it out, do your stuff, reverse then after.

Once you get the trim panel off you have to remove the screws from the storage compartment first then the HVAC controls then the radio, I know it's stupid but that is the GM design here.

Where are you in Ohio? I believe you have to pop the ring around the ignition first then pop the dash off around the radio.

You don't even need a screwdriver to pop the trim off. Mine comes off with fingertips pulling. You'll need to either unplug the DIC or swing the trim panel out of the way. Eight Phillips screws later, the back of your OEM head unit will be accessable.

Don't break the ignition bezel. The only way that comes is with the cylinder and it ain't cheap.

Just so I know, use flathead on the bottom of the ignition ring? Lift up and it should pop off safely?

Yeah but try not to stick the screw driver in all the way, otherwise your passkey Excitor could break then you won't be able to start the car.

This happened to me.
