• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Trojanone1's 1999 Grand Prix SE

I read the simple intake thread but can you use the existing hose and attach a spectre filter on it? I figured that way you wouldn't have to drill for that sensor.

You should keep that thing forever; it's clean.

That way you know the history of it.

Lower it a bit, get some clear corners, tint the tails, calipers can be a nice silver color or black to just clean it up, keep the badging...it's not awful...GTP Bumper/Side skirts..keep the single outlet rear bumper and run a full 3" single style exhaust and turbo the ever living pee outta it.

Thanks blueguy, appreciate it. Every post I read on this site u comment on it and u commented on my ride thread lol.

Yeah I am looking for a right taillight since I found a mint left one at the junkyard. Future plans are skirts, possibly 2.5 downpipe or just u bend delete. Homemade intake is coming soon.

Another different question I got is what filter do you guys use for your homemade intake? Saw st AAP they had short and long Spectre filters plus I saw they had a tube part for the IAT? sensor. Would this be better than drilling for the sensor in the pvc pipe? BTW thanks guys for the help and comments on my car even if it's only a 3800 se lol.

heres that part: http://m.advanceautoparts.com/mt/sh...adapter-spectre_22906026-p?searchTerm=Spectre

Id go Pvc and just drill it. I think most people on here have the big ass spectre filter just out of cost savings.

I think the bigger the filter the more sound you'll get out of it. I had the sober spectre like the smallest on my truck cause it was given to me and I couldn't hear it at all

Ok sounds good. Is the IAT sensor the only sensor I gotta worry about? And what tools do I need to yank out the stock airbox? Haven't looked at it too closely and I have limited tools in my apartment. My tool chest is at home lol.

Yes iat is all.

You need 2 tools; screwdriver and beer.

FYI you will finish the install before you finish your beer

I finished my beer before even going to the store to buy stuff for the project...is that backwards?

As for answers...

Intake of any kind...however you do it...it all works.

My N/A engine bay looked like so...was an L26 upper end conversion...and yes, with the factory tubing. You'll just need a knife/razor to trim off a little bit of the tubing to get the filter on there...you'll see the tabs that need trimmed once you get the filter on there.

Tools for airbox removal...hell it's been so long I can't even remember...I think the 97-98 box's just yank out...and the 99+'s might have a couple 10mm bolts holding the base of it...maybe not.

Either way, the PCM is in the box too...don't worry about it...just let it sit there, it'll be fine. As for the exhaust...deleting the u-bend for now will suffice. If you really care to...and you don't have to worry about emissions, then get a catless ZZP 2.5" DP. You can also make your own HV3 upper insert for the plastic manifold by trimming the factory runners in half and gluing them back together.

You want budget buddy...I got budget :)

Check out the thread for safely modding your 3800 in the general tech section that I typed up, it's got a few things for you to learn opn top of the mount flipping that's free too.

These we're the few vids I had of it too...ran pretty decent for a simple bolt-ons and tuned N/A 3800...

Hahaha ok maybe ill build my intake this weekend if I have time but it's Hobo days (SDSU's "homecoming").

And as for the u bend delete does everyone buy ZZPs or go to an exhaust shop and have them fabricate one up? Ive only asked one shop back home in Sioux Falls and they were clueless.

Alright so I know it has been a while that i have posted on my ride thread but spring is around the corner and I plan on getting on getting some stuff done to my car. As far as mods go if I plan on pretty much keeping my car stock besides planned on U-bend delete or downpipe (which one?), and some suspension mods (upgrade front and rear sway bars (still reading on those), and STB for front and rear from the junkyard). Is it worth it to spend $50ish on a homemade CAI or I thought I would just put a drop-in Spectre filter or just keep a AC Delco paper one in. Thoughts?

Edit: want to flip dogbones too.
