clunking idle

I have a 2000 GP GT with a top swap and xp cam. Several months ago I started to get a weird clunking idle. The RPMs will dip down 100-200 and thats when it will clunk. Its not a loud clunk but its enough to vibrate the car. Several months ago it was just once in a while. Now its all the time. As soon as I come to a stop the RPMs will start to go up and down and clunk for a few seconds, stop for a second then clunks again. There is no SES lights on. Some guy told me it could be something with the throttle, which makes sense since sometimes when I'm on the freeway and I'm slowly accelerating in 4th, the car kind of stutters to accelerate. And while accelerating slowly in 4th I get like .9 knock. If it downshifts to 3rd and accelerate harder, the knock goes away. There also has been a few times where I'm just cruising down the freeway at a constant speed and then it seems like the power cuts out for a split second and the RPMs will dip down by like 500 then go back to normal. Combination of these things seems like a throttle issue. What do you guys think???

Thanks,

Steven

As far as I am concerned at Max you can run a single with about 10k on 105 I am running a new stock single chain, with 90s and still a little concerned. Singles aren't meant to take much. Just from what you describe it might be that. Since at idle it stretches out the chain more.

Thanks I'll look into that more. I knew when I put it in that the single chain doesn't last that long, but I heard it was supposed to last around 30k...hmmm

Really that few?

I was under the impression it was closer to 40K for a stock, and around the same for a double roller on 130's.

Never bothered looking into a single roller. Never saw the point.

Have a guy with a XP cam and 105s 10k miles and he caught it before it went out. The dampner was literally about to give out.

personally as a safe thing to do. Just go double no need to push you're luck on a single stock one. I don't eve feel comfortable running my 90s so I will be putting a double on there.
