Intermittent P1571 and ABS/Trac Light On

Needs A Turbo
hey guys everyonce in awhile my abs light and trac light get stuck on and i lose magnasteer and i throw code P1571 then later ill come back and start my car and it will be back off....i did notice the EBTCM connector being duct taped when i first got the car a year ago but i didnt know why it was there as the connector was fine.....highly doubt thats it...maybe since i ride rougher now that im lowered i knocked an abs sensor plug looks at one of the wheels maybe? whats your guys opinion on this i need help.

sounds like a speed sensor starting to go, the most common way to check this is drive it in rain, i've seen tons of em where there getting wet and throws the code, then park it and let it dry out, codes gone and works fine till it gets wet again. Thats how my S-10 started until she just totally died

I highly recommend getting the Helms manual. If you had one you could look up that DTC and see what the possible problems are. It is going to be one of three things: (1) EBTCM, (2) PCM, (3) wiring b/w the two. Not a wheel sensor unless you scan it with a scanner that can read ABS codes and it tells you differently. I had the same symptoms as you described recently and after replacing the EBTCM the problem was solved. Since you mention some possibly jacked up wiring at the connector you would want to inspect that first. The Helms manual gives a nice flow chart for diagnosing the problem. I didn't have the tools for all of the steps but it was still helpful.

I see remnants of duct tape over my EBTCM connector. There is no cover, and the backshell on the connector doesn't look very water tight.
I was looking at the connector because i have the ABS/Trac light on problem also. It started when I was changing the oil filter. I was wiping up grease(?) that looks like it was thrown by the RF drive shaft. I must have bumped something. The speed sensor connector looks OK. Did I break a wire? Does anybody have a pinout diagram to the EBTCM connector?

I know this is super old. Im raising the dead!
I threw a p1571 and get abs kicking in at 17ish mph upon braking. Abs and trac lights on. Is the ebcm the only culprit? Can i luck out and only have to change my wheel bearing hub? If so, how do i know which one?
FML at $450 for an EBCM!!!!!!!!

you can find a used ebcm used for under 100. I have a 2001 gtp that I replaced the ebcm on only to find the wheel hub is loose. we replaced the wheel hub and its still broken, im pretty sure that there is a broken wire between the wheel hub and ebcm. by the way the ebcm is also known as the abs module. they are somewhat year specific. I think from 98 to 2002 they are the same but dont quote me on that. I would actually recomend going someplace that can scan your abs to see what the culprit is. what will happen if the scanner dosent show any information is that it is the abs module that has gone out. you should be able to find a good used abs module for under 100 on here. maybe ask one of those dudes that is parting out a grand prix.

most used ebcms have to be "flashed" to your specific car.

Im hoping for a hub. I shall inspect this weekend

that dtc means the desired torque signal PWM duty cycle is less then 5% or greater then 95% or desired torque signal is not received by pcm.

im thinkin your ebcm took a dump or you need to check the serial data circuit. This has no relevance to a hub

I recently encountered this problem as well. From my research the first thing I will be doing is replacing the abs sensor wires. From what I read they have a high failure rate. If it's the culprit, cheap fix.
