Which of the LIM bolts need thread sealant?

You really want an actual thread sealant not thread locker, the purpose is they run through the coolant passages.
 
clean the bolts real good. they have old sealant on them, it needs to come off first, then put new sealant on the bolts and install them.


i got the same stuff as posted, but in a small jar with a brush on the end of the cap. if you ever do your water pump, you want to use this sealant on the 4 long bolts as well.
 


^ this I got the bigger jar that's like $8 or so comes in handy more often then not. I quickly wire brush the bolts just to get the old crap off.
 
Is there a good way to get the old sealant out from inside the old bolt holes besides putting a tap in it and then vaccuming it out?
 
dont worry about the threads inside the heads, just clean the bolts up.

you do want to clean the crap out of the injector holes tho, brake cleaner and Q tips work well.
 
I used some sort of sealant by Permatex meant for water pumps on my WP bolts, and it must have been the right stuff, no leaks half a year later :D

I have a wire brush wheel type attachment for my dremel, should make cleaning the LIM bolts quick and easy.

I debated getting new LIM bolts because I've heard people snap them, but Bill said he never has using 15 ft/lbs I think on the aluminum gaskets. I'll just use my torque wrench and pray.
 
Never had a problem with them snapping hell most of the time I don't even use a torque wrench so its safe to say reusing yours will be alright.
 


Well got the old crappy gaskets out of there and new felpro metal ones are in. Thanks for the Help guys. Now I can go back to working on the GTP

One quick question. Hopefully you guys can help me out. I used a spin off of Bill's method for fixing the UIM Failure problem by taping and plugging the two coolant ports to the throttle body on the LIM. Instead of buying pipe caps I just cut the end of two bolts off and made a slot for a screwdriver to screw them in with. Anyways my problem is that I tapped both holes all the way thru and the screws where loose so I use some blue loctite on them and 12 hrs later they where tight and i assumed I was good to go. Now I am worried about weather or not the loctite is going to hold up to #1 the coolant and #2 the heat changes it will experience. I dont want them to get loose and end up in my water pump.

Ill upload a pic of them here too...I guess that wasn't really a quick question but whatever. Lol

 
Retap the holes and and get a appropriate size plug or do wht I did .....


Just fill it with JB putty and let it harden for a day or so.
 
Alright. Thanks. I think I'll go with the JB putty method as I has to use the largest tap in my set for the bolts. Thanks so much. I was thinking of JB welding it but wasn't sure if it would hold up. But if you've done it I'm sure it works. Did you put a bunch of JB weld up in the throttle body passages or did you put it in the LIM holes.
