ZZP 1" chain....worth the high cost?

I'm in process of a turbo build and thinking about ZZPs 1" chain. I'm only thinking about buying it now, before my tranny build because its 25% off. I usually stay away from first gen anything but, I'll need one anyway and the discount. What is the general consensus of this chain? Even if I do, it'll sit until the first quarter of 2014.

Probably better than stock, that's for sure.

I'd take my chances with it if I was building another transmission.

Can't go wrong with the pre order price considering what most people want for used GMR 1" chains.

Considering it's not tested, and Dave at TEP is currently testing another option, I'd wait.

News,Updates

A long-time project in development is finally close to being available. We have been working for almost 2 years on determining the cause of chain failures on higher powered cars and did a lot of testing to prove theories and ideas to see what is going on. This led us to some new ideas on how to address the issue and now we have finalized parts and have several transmissions in motion for final testing of a strength upgrade. One of the vehicles for this is our own 97 Grand Prix that makes about 500whp and it will be getting a weak-legged 3.29 ratio 7/8" single chain set, well known to fail on much more than 400whp builds. We should have this car ready in the next month for further testing and updates will be made at that time.
Note- This item will not be for sale individually and will only be available as part of a rebuild. There is a lot of time involved with fitment and special machining that has to be done, it is by no means a simple bolt-in part.

I haven't talked to Dave in quite some time.

Therefore, I now agree with you...Jamie Hyneman-sealion

It's 16% stronger than the 7/8" and nearly 300% more costly....on sale. The basics is that it's a 7/8" with additional plates on the outside. I'd also be super leary of a prototype ZZP product, since most of their stuff goes into 2-3 revisions after the guinea pigs have failures.

What turbo do you have? What cam? Fuel?

If you actually do make that power, a 7/8" chain probably won't cut it. Well, it will for awhile....

Below is what I've posted in a couple other threads about this chain setup. My advice to you would be to keep holding out for a 1" GMR set to pop up in the f/s section. I would also suggest making a "wanted" post...you never know who's sitting on one that has lonst interest in their built or even the platform.

Going to be an epic failure......same design flaws as the 7/8" setups. It's only a matter of time before the ZZP 1" version WILL stretch. Don't get me wrong it will help the frequency of swapping out the 7/8" setups for fresh chains but this isn't going to be a game changer for the 500whp builds.

Giant waste of a pile money. ZZP 1" = 16% stronger compared to the 7/8" ........GMR 1" = 300% stronger compared to the 7/8"

Not sure there is a way that I could ever justify spending $750-$1000 to buy a chain that is still going to be considered a "service item" cause it's still going to stretch. Financially it makes sense to just keep running the 7/8" setup.

Just calling it!!! GMR Morse HyVo "ZX" is by far the superior chain and anyone who's done their research will still spend the ridiculous amounts of money to get a chain that wont be a wear item.

I actually found (was offered) a GM 1" and I'll be going with that. Just had to ask about this other chain as it seemed to good to be true.

Thanks again guys
