2004 GTP Won't Start

Hey guys I have a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP with 75,000 miles. The other day when I tried to start the car I got no response, no engine turning over at all so I assumed the battery was dead. Also I noticed the wiper blades were pointing up which I found odd since I had not used them the night before. The first thing I tried was to jump the car which did not work. So I got the battery tested at Autozone and I was told it was dead. I replaced the battery with a brand new one and the car still will not start. When I turn the key you can hear the fuel pump engage but no engine turning over. The keyless entry will not work, the power windows and locks do not work, and none of the lights inside the car and the radio dosn't work either. But you can hear a faint static coming out of the speakers even when the key is not in the ignition. However the headlights do work. So the battery is working and was part of the problem.. But now I am unsure what the actual problem is.. Possibly an electrical problem or my ignition swictch? Has anyone else encountered a similar problem? I have disconnected the battery so it does not get drained while the car is sitting. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey guys, my name is Dave and I am sjw515's brother. I have been trying to help him diagnose/fix the car. I checked all the fuses that I can test (where you can see if they are blown) but some of the larger ones that are square shaped you can't really tell if they are bad or not. Anyone know how to test those?

It does seem like it is something fail-safe related that is not allowing the car to start like a fuse, switch, or something like that. When you turn the key on, you hear the fuel pump engage as he said. Then, when you try to start the car, nothing happens. The starter doesn't even click or anything.

When I blew the PCM fuse it would still click. Nothing about security on the DIC? it might just be a switch they do go bad in these cars.have you tried to jump the started to check if will even crank?

It's a screen on the dash that tells you the miles on your car

If I am remembering correctly, it is not lighting up as well as all the interior lights. I think the only light I could see was the check engine light. nothing else was responsive ( power dowers and locks, etc). headlights did work though...

I wonder if you BCM (body control module) has died. That is located on the drives side of the dash behind that panel covered by the CLOSED door. Also check the grounds at the transmission bell housing almost all of them are there.

it controls almost everything in the cabin.

I would check the wires on the starter, check the wire on the alternator, check the grounds, check the power cable going to the fuse box under the hood..

is there a way to test it or narrow it down to that? otherwise we are just pulling it out and buying a new one? sounds expensive if its not the culprit.

power cable to fusebox is good. can check the other wires/grounds also but it just feels like we would be taking a stab in the dark. the car is parked in an apartment complex and there aren't a lot of options for tools, etc. I was hoping to narrow down the issue to something given the issues we are having but i guess its never that easy :)

So there is no way to test to verify that it is actually the BCM is there? Also, where do you purchase one if we were to replace it?

Also, jumping the starter would only verify that the ignition switch is bad, correct?

Highly doubt the switch is bad. It's not like a switch from a 97-03. 04+ use a low amperage style switch. BCM must be programmed with a tech2. They CANNOT be used as they are locked after a few ignition cycles. Symptoms of a bad bcm are no Interior lights, security not enabling starter, locking issues, radio not powering on or locked, no communication with the bcm. Check your power and grounds at the unit other than that sounds text book bad bcm

Jumping your starter will prove nothing other than the starter motor itself is fine. The car will still not run

Thanks yall. It looks like the BCM is the most likely culprit at this time. (50-65 dollars aint bad!) We just need to find out how much a reprogramming costs at the dealership.

There's no way in hell that a new bcm (body control module) is $60. You cannot put a used one in. PCM (powertrain) yes but not a BCM.

He was looking at ones from ebay.. So they quite possible would be used ones. But I work for Carquest and can get a new BCM for $110. Thanks for all the help and ill keep you updated.

No problem just trying to make sure no extra money is spent that's not nessesary
