GTP DIC into GT?

Can you put a GTP DIC into a regular GT? I mean other then the boost the MPG etc would be nice to have I figured I'd ask cause it seems like they put a base model with options for the GTP but didn't install those options just put the ability to have them IE heated seat, HUD hole, door panel lights etc just curious thanks!

Bump I really want to know I found some on eBay and they have the MPG, Oil life etc and are stated that they are for a GT "NOT" GTP! Is that true? I will definitely buy one if I can use it..

It can be wired into a gt or u may get lucky and have the connector in your dash already

Thanks The Guz.. I have a DIC in my car already but it's a plain jane DIC not with the oil life, mpg etc and I really want all that my father had a 03 GTP and it had it any was really nice..

There actually ARE 2 different part numbers for the GT and GTP digital DICs.

09360342 = GT Digital DIC (designated by the TRAC button to deactivate the Traction Control System)
09360352 = GTP Digital DIC (designated by the TCS button to deactivate the Traction Control System)

From outward appearances, the traction control button is the only way to tell them apart, so you'll want to check the numbers. If installed in a GTP, the GT TRAC OFF light blinks upon starting up the car. I believe something has to be swapped around on the pinouts in order to operate correctly if you switch GT <--> GTP. Found this all out while trying to test the 4 DICs I had before listing them for sale. So for your application, you'll want to get a GT one to not have to worry about all that when you custom install a digital DIC. Otherwise, all the functions should be the same between the two (MPG, miles till empty, etc).

Thanks I know I will get a GT DIC I just didn't know if anything specific had to be done when swapping them because there's added functions that the old one didn't have but from what I've gathered and you told me there isn't I guess it was just the model of GP you bought either it had the mpg, miles till empty, oil life etc

Better re-read the link that Guz posted.

GT is analog, GTP is digital. You need to add and splice wiring when putting a GTP DIC into a GT. The "higher end" GT's (bose, heads up, etc) had digital DIC's, but from what I can tell, they are the same as the GTP DIC.

The only direct swap is GT DIC to GT DIC.

I have two GTP DIC's for sale....Grand Prix GTP Digital DIC's

Oh, and they look totally different from the front.

Yes but they have the same GTP model but specifically made for a GT I'm not debating if you're right or not about the wiring but the GTP into the GT you have to solder a wire to fix it..

I have a stupid question because on every other car I've had it was fairly simple but you have to take the cluster out is it hard? I've took the dash panel off several times but never really looked at the cluster cause there wasn't a reason.. And do you have to solder the wire on? Thanks

Not hard. 4 screws after you have the dash panel off.

And do you have to solder the wire on? Thanks
You don't have to, but I would.

Cool thanks dude I just don't want to take everything apart only to find out something I didn't know has to be done then I'm scrambling to get it done my household only has 1 car.. Mine so if it's out of commission we are screwed lol

Dig around behinf the dic when you get it out took 4 days and two people to mind my connector they had it wrapped in black foam down alnog the side of the glove box had I not taken the glove box out I would never have noticed it looked like sound insulatiion

What year and model GP do you have? And you're saying the other connecter is there you just have to look?

I personally had a gtp DIC that I swapped into my gt (which had the silly useless analog dic origionally) for about 2 years. It worked fine and the boost part even disappears based on your pcm bin. I didnt have the plug so I had to cut and splice in the new connector along with about 4 wires going to the hvac unit, gauge cluster, and obd port. I had to take the trac off bulb out because it stays on all the time when you put a gtp dic into a gt and noone had listed how to fix the issue at the time. I happened upon a true GT dic when I was in the junbkyard 6 months back and swapped that in. Funny thing is that now that im top swapped the gt dic suddenly has the boost gauge lit up and working. I can post pics if you would like me to dig them up.

Yea I wouldn't mind seeing them if possible.. That's funny with the boost

I actually just got a GT DIC & harness from Partslady (she's on here awesome to get pretty much everything from look her up if you need anything everyone) she is gonna ship it tomorrow I believe.. I'm really hoping when I get it and do the install everything goes good.. I was thinking about using those blue quick slice connectors for the few wires rather then splicing them which isn't a huge deal but seems so much easier and safer but if anyone has a reason I shouldn't please say so! Thanks fellas and Frosty I'd like to see those pics like I said and if you have any tips or advice being you've installed it already..

If i remember right i never tapped into the fuel level wire.... So the dic just uses the pcm fuel level anyways. Had like 2 extra wires overall. Wernt in my guide and i wasent about to mix and match colors for fun. It all works good. Idk if its normal for it to not tell you range less then 40 miles or so (mine just says low below 40) but other then that its awesome.

I have the generic looking dic in my top swapped gt and was wondering is there a difference between a digital gt dic and a gtp dic? I'm debating I'd like to do it but it's not worth it to me to have to splice into wires and run wires some people have a plug behind the dash can anyone verify this?
