USB Ports next to heated seat switch

Biohazard

I installed a dual USB port next to my heated seat switch, thought I could use up some of that large empty space. It was pretty easy, I took apart one of those cigarette lighter USB deals, cut a hole into the plastic, and mounted it from behind, tapping into the cigarette lighter wires.

It could be cleaned up, I'm working up some ideas. I was going to use the plastic plate from the source of the USB's but that makes it too deep.

Looks good.

This is connected to your radio or just a way to charge stuff? If it's just charging, having it straight down allows things to fall into it. If there's a cover on the piece you took it out of..maybe try and incorporate that in.

Just for charging. And thanks for the tip about stuff falling in, I didn't think about that. I'll figure some sort of cover out.

It's the same as when someone says their OBDII port ain't working.. First thing you tell them is..take the penny outta your cigarette lighter and fix the fuxe.

This is a great idea, both as a charge port or even as someone else asked, a USB connection to a headunit. Now, I don't have the heated seat option, if I got the heated seat plate, would it fit where I have a little cubby hole?

As long as there is room to mount the usb ports (which isn't that big) I don't see why not. Here's how I did mine, I took the USB portion out of one of these cheap car chargers, cut a hole into the heated seat plate, and glued it in. Then wired it up to the wires going to the cigarette lighter.

Looks good. Do you have a picture of the finished product in your vehicle?
