HELP! white smoke out of exhaust after accelteration ??

i got a turbo grand prix that at times white smoke would come out of exhaust after hard acceleration, could this be a bad seal on turbo or valves?? i'm just hoping nothing major like pistons or something. still runs awesome! but at times it will smoke up after hard take off... anyone had this issue before??

White smoke is either normal when the weather is cool, and the engine hasn't warmed up, or cold out and it will always have a little moisture visible. If it's warm and still making white smoke, it's usually water (coolant) that is being burned/mixed in the combustion process. Has your coolant level been going down lately? That's the first thing to check, as well as with our cars, checking the dipstick to make sure there is no foam (Oil/water mixed).

Edit: Nevermind, you later mentioned "smelly smoke" with a turbo.

yeah i will check that out later this afternoon. it only does it at times cause i've slammed on the pedal and had nothing come out

02...he's turbo. Very good chance there is an oil seal going bad. There is a way to check, I'm not that familiar though whether you check intake or exhasut side.

hopefully someone will let me where to find this issue, i hate having that smelly smoke come out!!! hope to get it fixed before the wbody intense meet this saturday!!!!

well mines dosent smoke while its parked it just happens when i accelerate hard n let off the gas then smoke comes out

First question is going to be if you're running an oil feed restristor on the turbo? If you aren't running one anything above 60psi, which is easy for the 3800 to do can push past the turbo seal....especially one with some age on it. If you are running a restrictor and the problem is still happening then you have a seal going bad, particurlarly a the "step gap piston ring".

As far as difficulty to change it's not bad at all. I attempted the rebuild on my own for my PT61 and still had to send it in becuase other areas of the turbo were out of tolerance and I needed a new complete center section.

hmm yeah ima have to see if my turbo is bad or not. hope not but if it is. what size turbo should i go for?? i dont even know the size of this cartuning turbo lol. im new to the turbo world, i had a 12sec xp cam gtp before but never turbo

i have a cartuning turbo kit with air to air i/c 60lb injectors, jasper race trans, zzp tune, everything else is stock right now my whp is at 278 and tq is at 379. i am looking to reash around 400-450max nothing too big. i am looking into a st3 turbo cam

Car tuning kit came with a p61. I upgraded to a T67. It all depends on how much you want to spend. It's cheaper just to change the seal.

I'll post pics of what a bad seal looks like.

I have a very similar setup and currently at 348whp/512wtq.

Do you have an exhaust cutout?

With you goal of 450whp max I've seen a lot of people having great luck with the Precision PT6262. It will easily put down the power that you're looking for. Shop around and if you have the PT61 which was an upgrade for the Cartuning kit I would say have the turbo rebuilt as the PT61 is more than capable of making the power that you're looking for and will be the cheapest route to take.

Standard Cartuning kit came with a T04B turbo (2.75" inlet/2" outlet)
Upgrade Cartuning kit came with a (PT61) T04E turbo (3" inlet/2" outlet)
Stattama offered and even bigger upgrade which is was Sal (Silver2kgtp) is talking about which is a T67 T04E (3" inlet/2"outlet)
