• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Computer Issues - Need info please ** UPDATE 6/6 **

I need some computer help.

Every time I turn on my computer I get this message.

ComputerIssue3.jpg

I hit F1 and it starts with no problems.

I've tried to restore the computer at an earlier date and still same thing at start up.

ALSO when I go to install updates, after it tries to install them, some fail and returns windows to how it was. Tried that microsoft fix but nothing.

Here is a pic of the update history. I don't remember the error code it gave me.

Here is my computer info.

Re: Computer Issues - Need info please

I hope you did back up info because you could have a hard drive failure underway.
Often will be different messages but I've seen that before a hard drive crashed for good.

Re: Computer Issues - Need info please

I'm wondering if I can buy a HD and just copy everything over to the new one and go. I'm not changing any hardware so I'm assuming it would work. :th_shrugshoulders:

Re: Computer Issues - Need info please

Yes and no. You're better to do a fresh install with driver software etc

Re: Computer Issues - Need info please

i got a local guy here who copy's the hard drive to another drive, then does what he can to fix it, if its not fixable, he takes all your programs and info from the copy to another new drive, it comes back like nothing happened.

Re: Computer Issues - Need info please

Well I was told to download Speedfan and hit the SMART tab.

I hit smart tab. Scanned main HD. Looked good.
Scanned secondary HD (only used for pics, vids and music) and a red dot showed up on the left.

Here is a pic.

Guess I need a new secondary HD.
I'm assuming since it's the secondary drive, that is why windows starts with no problems.

Doesn't explain the reason for the failed updates

Re: Computer Issues - Need info please

should be a option to scan and repair that HD. ive had sectors go bad before, the pc can fix thats it self some times.

Re: Computer Issues - Need info please

You Sir have a failing HD! Gratz. BACK UP YOUR JUNK,

Bad Sectors - most of the time - are the start of a failure. Your going to want to backup that drive (Which you should have anyway, stupid not to) or clone it. Tons of software for cloning HDDs.

As for the failed updates, that could be a number of events...If windows is installed on a different HDD I would download Microsoft Fix It (Fix the problem with Microsoft Windows Update that is not working) and run the Windows Update Troubleshooter. Unless there is something really wrong that combination will fix most anything wrong with Windows Update. If it is on the failing HDD then replace the HDD, install Windows, enjoy working updater again.

How do I know this: Geek Squad Advanced Repair Agent (2Yrs)

EDIT: Should have read more closely. You tried fix it... Try the trouble shooter. If that doesn't work, get the error code and post it.

*** UPDATE ***

I took out my secondary drive which had the bad sector and no more error message when starting up Windows.

I just put in a Seagate 2 TB secondary drive. Now just have to transfer all my files.

Glad you got everything transfered. In the future buy a Western Digital Drive. Seagates are notorious for write heads having errors lately.

The one that failed was a WD. Lasted only a couple of yrs. That's why I wanted to try a Seagate. I still always back up my hard drives with an external HD.
