Hi all,

I just bought a 1997 GTP and I was wondering how can I be certain the Supercharger unit is working properly? How does the boost meter work?

Does it have a belt on it? If so, it's working. The 'unit' does'nt just quit working without you knowing about it.


Boost meter does nothing for displaying information. Buy a aftermarket boost gauge.
 
^ X2. As for the aftermarket gauge, its your choice, but why not do your gp a favor and look into a Aeroforce scan gauge. One gauge with so many parameters.
 
I was seeing very little movement in the boost meter and I was wondering if it was working. By the way I've read something about using a smaller pulley on the SC, what type of benefit is there in that?

If its showing little movement on the DIC, It maybe have to do with your boost bypass valve not operating right. As far as the smaller pulley, it will increase boost resulting in more power, but you had better have the supporting mods and scan for knock retard or your motor will blow, even sooner if you dog it all the time. A car with a stock pulley with no knock will make more power than a smaller pulley with knock.
 


well also the DIC gauge does not even start to move untill positive boost is read acording to my aeroforce and looking at the DIC Gauge
 
Thanks for the info... I'm hearing a some noise coming from the supercharger area while the motor is ide. It sonds like some is loose inside. Any Ideas on what this could be???

You need a supercharger coupler. It's about 20 bucks and can be found here at ZZPerformance

Would probably take about an hour to change. What happends is the hard plastic holes in the coupler get woddled out causing it to make that noise.

Like he said though, to test this, pull your belt off the supercharger, and turn it back in forth, if you feel a clunk, then it's absolutely your coupler.

Another possibility is the rotor bearings are shot and the rotor pack needs replaced.
