New Mufflers on 2006 Grand Prix GXP

Hello,

I have a GXP with 132,000 miles on it. I was informed by a GM service mechanic that my mufflers were hollowed out and that a replacement from GM was going to be $1400. He mentioned going to another service shop that was known for fabricating, but I'm not sure I want to do that. Is there a reasonable muffler replacement out there? I did see the Magnaflow but I have no idea if that's any good. Any suggestions? Thanks!

No no not stock buy borla or another good brand...just not the flow master 40 series they sound like poopie

you'll get lots of opinions here. i use flowmaster myself and love my exhaust. your best bet is to search youtube for grand prix exhaust videos and make a choice that way.

ill explain why im saying this. Yes, all mufflers sound good on the 3.8 until you hit about 2,500 rpms. After that it gets ricey BIG TIME. If you get stock mufflers and throw on some headers it will be better for the car AND will be louder.

Lol 1400!!! For stock mufflers what kinda **** are they trying to pull dude just go to a muffler shop and they will get you squared away and remember have an idea of what u want or else any service place will take advantage of You. Magna flow exhaust systems are great and direct volt tin and will run you about 550 iirc but they won't fall apart and you will fall in love everytime you start the car

Thanks for all the comments! Yeah, even the GM shop thought $1400 was ridiculous for the mufflers. I called a muffler shop and they're doing some research on it.

Buy some online for cheap, and spend like 40-100$ at most to install them. Boom. They prolly want to install a whole catback system on your car.
