I hate working on cars....

I hate working on cars....when I have to work on cars.

Right now, I am rebuilding a 350 for my truck. I love heading out to the garage at night to work on it and get it back together in the next two weeks. But last night, the wife and I got home from a meeting, and I hear a squealing. Lift the hood, smells like coolant, the underside of the hood is wet, and water is flying from the belts. Damn it, I have to change the water pump.

Now, I know its only a 2.5 hour job start to finish. But it still put me in a bad mood. I just didn't want to do it. I wanted to work on my other engine. But no, it had to just sit there looking all lonely while I worked on the GTP. My wife even came out to help/keep me company, but I still wasn't happy about it. I just hate working on cars when I have to.

Anyone else like that?

Sometimes. I go through spells where I am up for working on cars, and other times where it is a chore just to get out there and change the oil. It is definitely compounded when you have one project going, and a DD breaks something. I think that is my main problem; always having something to do with my cars. If the end where in sight, there might be more motivation. That is where I am at with the GTP right now and it feels pretty damn good to see the end of the tunnel, honestly.

i hate working on my car, period. no matter if it's maintenance or i am adding things that i dont really need, if it takes more than a few hours i will begin to get angry and upset.

I hear ya Zef. Its like you get all worked up, you've even planned a little in your head, you're envisioning the relaxation even the fun of it then BAM! something train wrecks the idea. However, usually when my wife comes out to keep me company it makes things infinitely better. Now if she goes into one of here curiosity streaks and starts asking me a billion questions, well that just kind a puts a damper on it sometimes, LOL

Actually, I don't mind my wife being out there. Nice to have an extra set of hands at times to grab a wrench I can't reach while under the car, or hold the light. And she doesn't say too much. Usually have the radio on and talk about random stuff like music. But for the most part, she is just out there to hang out. But most of the time she does stay inside, where she belongs (did I just say that?). haha...

yea thats kinda the way I feel somtimes also zef. If I have something planed its no big deal, but if its unexpected.......well then I get pissed.

Same here. I have to want to get out and do something. If I have to, that's when I get pissed. Especially when it happens on those days that are freezing or hot as hell.

i hate fixing my car. i like modding my car. i mod my car, knowing its gonna break, and that ill have to fix it.

why do i do it?

motivation, for some reason it comes and goes...I still have a 1965 furyIII I have to get pulled out of a field and ready for my friends wedding next year. "some stuff we didnt fix."

Ha i have to say im kinda unlike all of you in that i love workin on cars i dont care what im doin i just love workin on them. I worked on a friends car all summer cause i had nothing i could do to mine at the time. I prob ought to be goin to school to turn a wrench but am not. i'm gonna keep it as a hobby kinda instead. Ive been workin on cars since i was prob 5 helpin my dad change oil an stuff an once i got older an learned more i started doin other stuff then i got my car an thats all i wanna do is work on my car.

I admit that I have my funks at times, but as much as I've waited before they aren't gonna fix themselves. I'm less motivated when it comes to electrical stuff myself.

I hate working on my car, but... I love wrenching on someone elses. Not sure why unless it's just the subliminal feeling that I didn't spend the money. Brian and I are usually working on someone's Grand Prix every weekend.

This is true.

I like doing preventable maintenance on my car and the GF's car, and modding and working on others cars, but when ****s broken and your under pressure to get it fixed, thats when it sucks for me.

~F~

I'm with most of you here, I don't mind doing stuff on my time but when something breaks, it sucks. Changing the oil, checking fluids, etc. doesn't bother me but when something is broken it really sucks. It needs to be done before you can drive it again and it is stressful.
