02' GP GT LIM/UIM Replacement

So I've been pretty occupied as of late and have not posted in a while. Between work, kids first year of college, and rebuilding my Yamaha YZF1000R, I've had the Pontiac on the back burner. Now that the bike is a week from being finished, and work slowing down a bit, I can concentrate on getting the Grand Prix finally finished. I have a mountain of new parts ordered, but my main concern is having the LIM Gasket Upgrade done as well as the replacement UIM installed as I believe that it is the cause of my CEL and 1071 Code that I have had for 3 months now. I spoke to Bill Boost37 and he was nice enough to allow me to drive up and do the install for me as soon as my parts arrive. I have other parts coming as well: Monroe Sensatrac Quick Strut Set, AC Delco Fuel Pressure Regulator, AC Delco Crank Position Sensor, Taylor 8mm Wire Set, AC Delco Spark Plugs, FelPro Aluminum LIM Gasket Set, New Dipstick, Dorman Ungraded UIM Set, New Headlight Set, and New Tail Light Set. I'll be tackling all the other stuff myself at my leisure. It should not be too hard. As for the LIM/UIM, I've been on the forum 6 months now and I knew I had to give Bill a ring. He knows his stuff and being my only car, I can't afford to mess anything up doing it myself out in the street. Those days are over for me. My forte is bikes and I can work on them in my smaller than tiny garage. I'm hoping he'll let me snap a few photos during the process to post here on the board. That's up to him. I'm just happy to have the work finally finished.

Devil's advocate....might as well drop a cam in while you're at it :D

just so happens I have one for sale....BAHAHAHAHAHAHA

You're lucky you're relatively close to Bill. Good luck with all the fixes, but at least when you're done that GT will go for a LONGGG time.

Exactly my thought! I only paid $1,800 bucks for the car, and I got $400 for my 86' Olds, so I really only spent $1,400. It only has 138,000 miles on it and it runs beautiful. I figure I should just spend another $1,500 bucks and put everything it needs and I'll have a decent car for the next few years and still will only have spent less than 3 grand total. The two hour jaunt over to Bill's place will be well worth it!

That crank sensor is not for a 3.8.

It should look like this, it fits behind the harmonic balance and see that 2 slots that where the metal things spin through and send the signal.

Crap! Your right! My mistake. That's what happens when you try and do things at 3am! Thanks for the heads up. I just ordered the right piece. Man that sucks. Thank God I only paid $19.99 for it. Maybe I can just sell it here to someone who needs it. Thanks again.

Man! Today was a great day at work. I got a bunch of packages today and the one I really was hoping for was the FePro Alum LIM Gasket Set. Aside from that was the new Dip Stick to replace my broken one, new spark plugs, new Fuel Pressure Regulator, the Monroe Quick Struts, and my new Headlights. What a haul! At least I'm ready for the LIM/UIM repair up at Bill's place! Totally stoked!

And the new headlights will hopefully be nicer than the water soaked ones I have now.

Wish I had seen this thread sooner. I wouldn't have let you order the crank sensor or dipstick, have spares taking up room in the garage. Please bring all the goodies with you. In between snapping pics, I'm sure they'll all get onto the car.

Headlights are... two 10mm bolts
Tails are three or four thumbscrews or are they 10mm nuts...
HB, I have the bolts needed to do the pull. It's about 15 minutes.
Plug wires.. we will already have one end of the off. Let's toss them in while we are there. Nothing like a nice new intake and fresh new wires/plugs.

Oh yeah, can't let you leave without all these goodies being on it.

Thanks very much Bill. Just to let you know, I'll be getting there about an hour early, but don't you go rushing. I'm gonna get some breakfast and then let the car sit an hour to cool down so it can be worked on without us getting burned. You just come at the time you told me. I'll be fine hanging out until you get there.

More goodies arrived today at work! The new tail light set came. They definitely look 100% better than the stock units. I'm just afraid to even install them since we have idiots here that can't park their cars without hitting yours!

The Taylor 9mm Wire Set cames as well. They feel really nice and I like the color.

Lastly, the new Fuel Pressure Regulator came.

I'm hoping that the Crank Position Sensor makes it here by tomorrow so I'll have everything I need.

It's about $70 at rock auto and it includes everything in the pic.

It looks like the dorman one has a metal bushing on the opening for the egr stove pipe.

Billy,

Even if it doesn't arrive, we'll put one on. No worries there. :th_thumbsup-wink:

On this hour early. That is very nice, no need though. We won't get burned.

Thanks Bill. According to Ebay, it should be here today, but with USPS you can't count on it. It's no bother anyhow. If it doesn't arrive, that is something that I'm capable of doing later on.

Last pieces of the puzzle arrived today! What a Saturday it's gonna be!!!

Passenger side mirror to replace the crappy black aftermarket one, my new antenna tip because mine is missing, and thankfully, my new AC Delco Crank Position Sensor.
