Toasty, I'll ask in a nicer way. What exactly is that? If I had to guess I would say you changed the color on the rear view mirror, but Ive never seen that CAL symbol before on mine which I assume is for calibration?

No it's reading E = Empty or its a new numerical reading for calories? CAL?
And its 73 degrees somewhere? Or 73 degrees south by southwest?
I am thinking Toasty has cracked the HUD display or DIC to show those states.........right??? Or was this from your failed overhead DIC project?

well you're about as close as one can get, i suppose
i nixed the overhead console DIC because i have a 97, and it's wiring is different enough that it likely wouldnt function right (98-02/03 would have been fine) so, i went looking for another temp/compass solution --- so a mirror seemed the best choice, but i wasnt looking forward to having green display in red lighted car. the fix? found a seller on ebay selling complete mirror retrofit kits (including full harness and temp sensor) and they offer custom color displays!
--- they have like 7 different available colors.as for the CAL, the pic was likely taken when in calibration mode for the compass.

my overhead DIC project didnt fail! ... i went in a different direction, knowing that it likely would not have full function in my 97... the compass/temp would have worked no problem, but if it didnt fully work, i didnt want to do it.

So you all your information displaying in DIC now, the Temp and Compass on top of everything else? Or did you fab up a secound LED screen to make those work?

--- though it would be awesome to put the display in the DIC... hadnt thought of that, nor how hard it would be.

how-to?
remove old mirror.
install new mirror.
run wires for power, ground, and temp sensor.
locate temp sensor up front behind bumper.
voila!

Really, I take it then, that this mirror is from a different model? I thought you somehow had pulled the OEM mirror and change the led colors or something.

it's an oe gm mirror, typically oe blueish/green color -- the seller opens it and changes the color, but not sure how the color is changed... It's not really just led backlighting, though. not sure how it's done, and not sure i am going to take this one apart to find out
my oem GTP mirror doesnt have temp/compass.... yours does?

Yes sir, it has both. Full onstar, temp & compass. Though I never activated the OnStar.
