ZZP Modified 1.9 Rockers

I started hearing a ticking noise coming from under the valve covers, which turned out to side to side play on a few of
the rockers arms. These are the ZZP modified 1.9 rockers which were purchased on 5/24/10. Although I've had these installed for quite a few years, I've only driven 22,928 miles with them installed. I don't know how many miles were on them before the I owned them, guess I shouldn't have purchased used rockers. ZZP doesn't sell this type anymore, they offer ones with an improved trunnion and bearing design. I got in contact with ZZP, to see if they could repair these, had a repair kit or had few lying around which they didn't. I then ask for a discount on purchasing a new set and I was politely told no. I really thought they would've given me a small discount, I guess being a long time customer doesn't mean much these days. I'm now in the process of trying to find a place to either purchase the parts to do the repair myself or send them out to be repaired. There are trunnion upgrade kits available, but they're only available for the Ls engine. If anyone still has the ZZP modified rockers installed and have ticking coming from the valve cover it's probably the rockers. I like the design of the new ZZP rockers, but the I got your money and now your on your own approach is what I don't like. A small 10% discount shouldn't have been a problem for them and would've kept a long time customer loyal.This is my summer fun vehicle, so I'll just park it until I decide if I'm going to purchase new rockers from someone else or cam it. Btw, I only have 68,247 miles on the car as it sit.

Where's the play coming from? Are you sure it's the rockers and not the valve guides?
1.9's, especially the modded rockers and not rollers, will put a large amount of pressure on those pushrods and valves due to the additional travel (ratio). 22k may not seem like a lot, but it is.

Asking for a discount is kinda silly if you ask me, you mod at your own risk! Buy new ones of heads are good or go Roller Rockers ; )

Why would zzp give you a discount on rockers when you didn't even buy them there?

Anyways, I would definitely do some more checking under the valve covers. Your rockers are nothing more than stock gm rockers that have been modified. I can honestly say that I've never seen one issue with this style of rocker.

I did buy them from ZZP, which are used gm rockers that were modified by ZZP. So who knows how many miles were put on them and how much abuse they endured before I purchased them. Read this about the trunnion upgrade;
http://www.compcams.com/WhatsNew/NewsDetails.aspx?ListHistoryID=1508422545 If you look ZZP's new 1.9 rockers for the 3800 engine now uses this style, that has to say something. I'm not saying my car puts out as much power as an LS engine, but take a defective stock rocker that has high mileage, was abused, then modified and used in perfomance engine. I've seen the needle bearing of a failed oem rocker stuck to a oil pan drain plug magnet and in the oil pan. Luckily there was no engine damage cause the oil pain pick up screen trapped what the magnet didn't get.

So you always pay full price for everything? If you don't ask for a discount, there's a 100% chance you won't get it and if you ask there's 50/50 chance you may not get it. I like 50/50 odds better, you'd be surprised what discounts you could get if you ask.

I'm Happy to say Steve and I are working on a favorable solution. Thanks for all the advice and constructive criticism, lol

Ah ok, I understand now. I always thought zzp used new rockers for that.

Steve is good to work with.

Steve is literally the only person I'd work with at ZZP after all the negative stuff that's happened to me over the years with them.

Glad you got it situated.

To ask for a discount from ZZP because the parts you purchased from them many years ago are wearing out is RIDICULOUS. Are you serious ?
