Y pipe to rear exhaust leak between engine and firewall on 2000 GTP

Hi - Just wondering how hard this is for DIY.

I have a 2000 GTP and I ran over something and caused a leak - looks like there is a small flex line where the Y pipe connects to the rear exhaust between the engine and firewall.

It seems hard to get to but I was wondering if there's some tricks to getting in there. Is there a flex line that's held in with clamps that I can replace without welding?

thanks in advance! My GTP has 182k miles and runs great with no major repairs.

some pics would help. but im pretty sure the manifolds are cast and you cant weld cast well. it never lasts.

not sure whats broken, but you may need a new Down pipe or the whole rear manifold. hard to say with out seeing it.

Here's a pic - I can reach down between the engine and firewall with the engine running and feel the leak in the ribbed portion of the pipe. I am thinking that the manifold is OK and maybe that ribbed portion is part of the downpipe?

thats part of the down pipe. it unbolts at the flange in the pic. and 2 more bolts at the cat to res flange.

time to get a new one as i dont think its fixable. unless the gasket blew out. it looks like someone has been in there before maybe.

if you seafoam the car you'll see exactly where its leaking from, or when its cold out on a cold start may show it as well.

id get the 3 inch DP. 3 inch catted is 220.

but a walker is 250 ish. direct stock replacement.

or find a used one, they pop up on CL and here as well sometimes.

btw took about an hour to remove it with the car on jack stands so it wasn't a big deal. I ordered the 3" catted unit from zzp for about 250 shipped - what a great deal. We'll see if it makes a noticable improvement.

I dont think you'll notice much of an improvement. I wouldn't go with a smaller pulley as you mentioned earlier without headers or at least a PLOG. But you may as well go with headers as they are only a tiny bit more than a Plog manifold

Torqueaddict, did you buy the bolts for the new DP install yet? Just wondering what bolt size you got for the DP-manifold link? I have a DP that needs to be installed as well.

Will get back to you on the bolts - thanks for the advice on the pulley. Too many projects now - still finishing a 350 to 455 swap in my 72 Skylark, and I'm driving my 89 GTA in place of my daily driver (the GTP) which isn't so great for winter :-)
