XPZ cam thoughts

Gonna drop another cam in this week and i have a xpz laying around i know i need 3/8 pushrods i have a double roller already, stg 3 heads with 130# springs for clearance and wanted to know would i need anything else to drop this cam in? I have a xp but ive always wanted to try this cam thanks!!!
 


You need the proper length pushrods. And, you will probably make more power if you use a heavier spring than a 130. I used Manley 150's on my car.
 
go big or go home! I loved my xp when i had it but up top i felt it lacked. although it could have just been the m90 lol. I was under the impression that the xpz was more top end happy vs low end. I could be off though

Feel the same way with the xp too ... I raced a stock 5.0 2 nights ago and i beat him surprisingly no vids... So call bs.. Lol but i feel the car had wayy more potential with the xpz or some equivalent to it
 
My 01 in my sig has an XP. The 04 in my sig has an XPZ. If your heads are clearanced for it, you will be much happier with the XPZ.

Yeah i just dmhad the xp cam put in already i rushed my descision but i had a xpz ready to put in but i didnt do research did you change your lifters/rockers? Im not changing mine i know that lol
If you have the fixings to run the xpz why not...wish I had cams laying around lol

so basically what all this means to me is i should spray mine. and not if but when i scatter parts all over youll force me to buy some hinson heads and an IS4 or IS3 cam (you can keep the zzp cams).......... lol hows that saying go not fast it broke?

Stock rockers and lifters are usually fine.
Ok i'll use my stock lifters and rockers i'll pm you with more questions if i have some thanks gtppower

Ditch the 130# unless you don't plan on reving very high. If plan on giving it revs which is what it needs, you will want those 150# springs.

We ran this cam in a friends car. It picked up some gains going to 130# and upping the revs more. Almost full weight, and got it down
to 11.50@118 with crappy 60 foots.

Otherwise, just wasting the cam.

Now this is going off from memory here.. so may be missing a few details. There was much more in the setup.. and he launched it never hard. I don't think
he ever got pass the 1.7x 60 foots. He switched motor setups in a years time. From old reliable motor... to L26 that lasted 2 runs, the back to the old motor
where a big name shop rebuilt it, but I think they screwed it up and just never ran right.. so this goes off original setup I can remember..

Stock compression but pistons were 20 over.
XPZ
150# springs
ZZP s3 then to Aluminum heads at some point, but cant remember if aluminum were on during the 11.5x runs.
yella terra 1.6 rockers.
ZZP headers
3"/2.5" cat back
GenV ported with 2.7
5% OD balancer
Electric water pump.
ZZP IC with ice bucket setup
80# injectors
PRJ rails
racetronix 255 setup/rewire
open cone intake

Trans
GMR 3.29 gears
3000 PI converter
GMR Torsen
Intense input shaft
and whatever else that was done back in 2010

He would remove rear seat cushion and passenger seat.
Had aluminum subframe, and hacked up front bumper support.

Suspension was AGX and maybe the GMPP springs, zzp control arms.

I think it had lower 11's in it, if he would have dropped the slicks pressure down and launched it harder.
Same slicks I was able to pull off 1.56 60 foot as my best in the turbo car, while I don't think he ever got deep 1.7s.

If could have gotten it worked out more to get the revs up. I think was only reving to 6300-6400 maybe. XPZ loves
higher revs than that.
 
max effort sc setup...... damn there is a pile of money in those parts. way more than i was expecting anyways.
thanks i wanted to compare the mid 11s to compare to what mid 11s turbo setup takes.

i know zach that built the caged shell i have went 10.8s with an xpz cam also.
appreciate the history i dont remember the giant builds like this from when the wbodies were way more common.
