• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

I picked up a 98 gtp 2 door last nite and the seller told me the car needed a solenoid? he provided the part but since I practicly stole the car ($1000 with 90k on it) I assume he is bs-ing me. I planned on putting a zzp tranny anyway but I was wondering if there might be something to it. First and second are fine but it wont shift out of second and it takes a minute to shift back to first. When I was going 50 and let off the gas the rpms came down and it coasted but when I hit the gas it was like neutral till it got to 3k ish rpms and accelerated from there. any ideas??

These transmissions are completely electronic and controlled by the pcm-powertrain control module, so a scan tool would greatly help you out to determine what is going on and without checking a few things you are pretty much shooting in the dark. You definately got a great deal on the car if everything else is sound! The car will feel like it is in nuetral if the shifter is in D or 3 as there is no engine braking unless you pull it manually down into 2 or 1.

Thanks for the info, I am going to have a local shop look at it but depending on the price I am thinking I might be better off replacing it (I like the street strip model on your site). I dont know how the previous owner drove or maintained this car and I would have piece of mind knowing that it would be new before moving on to the engine.

That would probably be for the best to let a shop diag your problem and it very well could be the trans is shot but at least you will know for sure. Taking care of the trans before adding engine mods is always a good idea also. If you have any questions out my transmissions let me know. Emails are generally the best way to contact me and the correct email address is on our website.
