Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

wont shift out of first

i have a 97 gtp and i blew the trans awhile back. so i just got a trans from an 01 Lesabre, used, for free. i got a new differential and put that in and used my CV axles. i put a 3800 stahl converter(i know thats big) in it. changed the filter and fluid. when i drive it the car doesnt shift to second gear unless i floor it til 6k rpm. if i drive normal the car just rides in 1st gear. maybe different gear ratios or something in the computer thats not telling it to shift?

If you swapped your diff in, you're going to end up with 3.29 gearing, which is quite a bit different than the 2.93 the computer is expecting. The computer needs to be rewritten for the new gearing. Whether this is causing the specific shifting issue, I can't say for sure, but it will screw with your shifting.

oh really? how sure are u about the ratio change? cuz thats what i think the problem is too. i want to order a pcm and have them tune it to that ratio but i dont wanna spend the money for that and it end up not bein the right ratio. i think thats most likely the problem though.

AFAIK, there was not a single non-HD trans that came with the 2.93 overall ratio, so I can virtually guarantee that your gear ratio has changed. The VAST majority of the non-HD transmissions came with 35/35 ratio gears on the input side, so the overall gearing was determined by the differential. The HD differential was only made in the 3.29 ratio, so an HD diff in just about any non-HD trans will give you 3.29 overall.

whats AFAIK mean? lol. and yeah i think this is the problem. cuz trannyman said i have a 2.86 gear ratio originally in that trans so then wit my HD diff it changed it to whatever and that messed it all up. so i put the non HD diff back in and the shift times are better but still way off. it actually does shift now but im almost 100% sure that i need to get my PCM tuned to the gear ratio with my HD diff.

Very sure. If you stick an HD diff on a non-HD trans you get 3.29 gears.

alright cool. at least i figured out the problem now. 3.29 gears are actually better anyway. lol. i hate the stock gearing in these cars. oh and do i have to get my PCM tuned to my stahl? i have a 3800 from zzp but it says it acts as a 3300. but i can stahl it up to about 4k rpm. lol

You shouldn't have to tune it for the higher stall speed. Might want to tweak the lockup clutch apply settings. You still have to get it tuned anyway for the 3.29 gears.

yeah i know that. so do u think my car doesnt wanna shift correctly since the ratio is off? cuz thats what i am thinkin. idk what else it could be. and whats the lockup clutch apply settings? ive never heard of adjusting it.

Until you fix the problem you have, we can't troubleshoot other problems. It's reasonable to assume that's your problem.

The lockup clutch apply settings are exactly what they sound like. They control when and how the lockup clutch is applied and when it's released. With the higher stall you'll have a higher difference in RPMs in the torque converter so that should be taken into consideration when applying the lockup clutch.

oh alright. that makes sense. so i am planning on ordering a custom pcm from intense. what do i say about the lockup settings? how do i describe what i want it to do?
