wipers staying up

hello all. after last nights snow my windshield wipers are deciding to act up.
when you turn your wipers on, with the delay, they swipe then come back down, but not all the way down. they dont go all the way down until you shut them off. well instead of going all the way down, mine are going all the way up when i shut them off. they stay down in place when theyre on with the delay, but once i turn the switch off, they go all the way back up, to the top of the "sweep" they make.....

what in the HELL could cause this?

This is a common problem, from what I've read there is a metal tab in the wiper motor area that sets where the wiper arms park when turned off, when it becomes bent it causes the problem you have.

even though neither of those links worked for me, you are 110% correct about the steel tab. i was doing some looking on some other sites and found a very nice write up with pics for the project. i was able to fix it in about a half hour

ok guys, if/when that steel tab finally breaks off, what is the name of the part i replace?? i was looking at gmpartsdirect.com and found a couple..... is it the "wiper transmisson" or is it the "frame"?? or is it something else???

nevermind guys i got it. for future reference it is the frame that needs to be replaced, GM part #12368639, $150 was the absolute cheapest i could find

I would call Morad Parts Company. I bet they will sell you one for half that price.

i was under the impression they sold only genuine gm parts...
a genuine gm part is whats failing me, and when something fails me, like a part, i certainly dont go back out and buy that exact part again...i try something else... i am anti-OEM for that reason

How many miles and years are on that part?

In my expereience, the majority of aftermarket parts do not hold up as long as OEM parts. Most thing from wheel bearings, tie rod ends, PS rack, pumps, window regulators, etc, etc are all better OEM quality than the cheap aftermarket parts.

But again, just my experience.
