Wiper problem again

Well, I posted awhile back about the wiper flying off the windshield. Well, I locktite the thread and it doesnt get loose anymore. However, now from what I heard it will fly off the windshield but pull itself back on when using mist. However under normal use it works fine. I keep hearing about a tab being bent but have no clue what you are talking about. Any help?

what are you talking about?

is the arm going too far, or parking in the wrong spot? that's where the tab comes into play

or are you meaning that the blade isnt staying in contact with the window?

if the blade isnt staying in contact with the window, the spring in it is likely worn out.

get a new arm -- this will also help with keeping tight on the splined shaft. --- the new arms do not have the oposite splines, they're made slightly smaller, and the splines are pressed into the arm when you tighten down the arm. if you've stripped out the mating surface of the arm, that's why it kept getting loose.

Great. Another $40. I was afraid of that. It rests fine. It just keeps getting loose and flying off the windshield.

The tab is on the top of the plate that the motor bolts too. Its a HARD metal Tab about 1 cm wide by 2 cm tall. I had to bend mine back with a hammer and punch. What this does is the parking mechanism on the top of your wiper motor hits this and causes the motor to park you wipers. When its bent it will not catch causing your wipers to do strange and weird things like park in the upright position. I used to have pictures of this but i must have deleted them.

Good luck.

yeah mine did that...

i was worried that the splines on the stud were bad, but the end of the arm is fairly soft aluminum, from the looks of it, probably meant that way to A) conform to the splined shaft, and B) if one of them strips, it's likely to be the arm.... so after getting a new arm and tightening it down GOOD it hasnt been a problem since. -- though a bit of thread lock on the nut might not hurt.

I stripped my passenger one last winter trying to clean off some snow. But I pulled the wiper arm off and noticed the splines on the stud. So I cleaned things up and re-installed the wiper arm. I would have used some blue loctite had I had some at the time but I didnt. But it has been fine since.

Ive taken off, tightened down, everything under the sun I can think of, at least 8 times in the last 2 months. So every 2 weeks. Im tired of getting phone calls about it.
