Windshield Replacement and HUD Calibration

So the neighbor had a tree removed and while chipping the tree up they chipped up more then just the tree.

They are paying to have my windshield replaced 550 smacker(ouch) and the company doing the repair said I may have to take it to the dealership and have the HUD re-calibrated so that it looks right because replacing the windshield could change the depth slightly distorting the display.

Is this accurate considering this is ancient HUD tech?

If so how much could one expect to spend on it.

Thanks in advance

theres hud glass and normal glass, you want the hud glass, thats all thats needed, and even then the normal glass works.

just think about how many have installed a hud in a car with out it....they dont go to a dealer for nothing. and they got non hud glass.

I had to have my hud equipped cars windshield replaced two years ago. went with the non hud windshield because like you said, the hud windshield is like $500+. the other one is $2xx something.

IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE.

I didn't have to change anything or do anything else. just have then put it in and drive.

I had a Pilkington HUD windshield installed for around $250 maybe a year ago. It made the HUD look even better. Somebody is choking you-all's chickens, man. No offense. If you ain't paying don't sweat the price, but get the HUD glass.

There's a coating on the HUD glass you can see in the right light.

What's this about recalibrating the HUD? Fixing mine was one of the first things I did, and I didn't see any way to "calibrate" it's depth like you described. From what I've read, either they're broken or not. The little spring that holds the mirror was loose inside mine. A tiny drill bit and a detailed online guide had me HUD happy in an afternoon.

Naw it wasnt the depth of the HUD they were talking about it was the depth of the windshield from its original position. But from what I see here i dont have problem.
