Window won't work

Hey guys I have a 2002 Pontiac grand prix and it's a 4 door. Recently the rear driver side window has stopped going up and down. Do I need to purchase the whole assembly for the window or is it most likely just the motor? And just as a little bit of background information that's the only window that's having an issue if I press the switch on the driver control panel it won't go down and if I press the switch on the actual rear driver side control panel in the backseat it won't go down or up either.

Just buy the whole assemble it cheaper. Just had to do two. Amazon right now has them for under $65 for the Dorman brand, which is the best brand for window motors, any other website has them for at least $130.

Might want to check rockauto.com too. And when you have everything out it would be a good time to lube the felt guides in the window channel as they like to dry out and grab the glass, thus putting extra strain on the motor and regualtor.

Does anybody know of a write up that explains how to change the window motor and regulator? I looked in the how to section but I didn't find one for a 2002.

Not sure on a write-up, but this is from memory:

Remove the 2 screw covers from under the pull handle (they are hidden behind 2 small covers). Behind this you will see 2 torx heads screws. Remove these 2 screws. It also helps to have a magnet to get them back into place upon reinstall. Pop the master switch plate up from the BOTTOM of the plate and rotate upwards and pull back otherwise you WILL break the top clip up near the mirror adjust. Remove the switch. Remove the wiring for the mirror switch as well from the bottom of the plate.

Remove the speaker cover for the tweeters up near the mirror. It just clips in. Then just run around the edge of the door panel and pop the clips out. Once the door panel is off you will have to disconnect the entry light wire or you will break it. Also the speaker wires. With the panel out of the way you should see the window motor. Disconnect the harness to it. The you will see 3 10mm bolts with torx heads in the middle of them. This is to remove the motor. Just use a 10mm socket. Make sure the window is about 1/2 way down so you can get to the 2 bolts that bolt the window glass to the regulator. You will have to tape the glass up so it doesn't slide down and break once you remove them. Then look for 4 more bolts just like the 3 for the motor. 2 towards the top and 2 towads the bottom. These are to remove the regulator. Once everything is free just wriggle the entire motor and regualtor assembly out of the large cutout in the door. Reinstall is the opposite. And don't overtighten the 2 bolts that hold the glass to the regulator or your risk cracking the plastic inserts in the glass or the glass itself.

Once you do it enough this is about a 30min job tops, lol..
