Window Woes

Well i bought my 01 GT last week and got it half way home and found out the passenger window dosent work. Dosent work from either switch so does anyone have any ideas.
I'm not familiar with the newer window stuff with a regulator and motor so some one please educate me on this. All the window motor stuff i've done were motor and gear operated, or motor and sissor lift operated.

I havent taken the panel out yet to check motor or connections or anything, that may be it. Hopefully i can get to that around tuesday.

Any ideas on what to look for, or what could be the problem?

more then likely you need to buy a new motor/regulator. These are basically junk on our cars. Easy way to check this is pull your panel off, hit the switch and check to see if you have power in the plug to your window motor, you can use a test light on this, just ground it to a decent ground on the door, it your switch and check one side, if nothing check the other. One will have power up, then other down. If nothing there you probably have a bad master switch, which will make your other switch not work. If you do have power check out rockauto.com and order a regulator and motor off of them, there the best price around and they have a lifetime warranty, and with the cable style regulators that always break thats something you want to have!

The window behind me got stuck around 7 months ago, both (main, and door) bottons did not work (window wouldnt move) I totally had given up on it, and went as far as researching changing the motor myself, and found a motor online. Found a nice warm day to change my plugs, and decided to inspect the door, popped off the control panel and the son of a bi*ch worked!!. try that first before doing anything drastic.
Hopefully youll have the same luck as me.

the driverside back window on mine has been out for months the motor spins so I know it just needs to be replaced I might get around to it someday i dont give a crap i never ride in the back lmao

i'm deffinately going to pop the door panel off first and check it out first.. also gonna pop in some new front speaks too. then i'll have a further assesment from there.

anyone got a good link to our door pane removal?

My passenger window doesn't work either all other work except that one. I took off the door panel and checked the switch and it is broken. I'm gonna get a new one and see if that does the trick but you should check that too.

This is common with motors. The motor develops a dead spot and once and while hits it, and stays. It is a short lived fix, to hit it and get it going again. Hang onto the motor you bought!

I believe i may have the same problem.. i was sitting in my car earlier and kicked back with the radio off, just sittin in the yard when i accidently hit the switch.. and i heard a click from the pass side..

so when you hit either switch, you can hear inside the door, somethings clicking, trying to work.. so is my motor froze up in one of those dead spots, or is the motor dead completely?

Twice my window went down, and got stuck, first time it went back up (eventually), second time (a friend pushed the window down by accident) it got stuck half-way for 2 days, thats when I pried off the switch panel to that door to investigate and everything started working again.

All the while I could hear the motor running when I would test the buttons.

Window has been working perfect for the past 3 months.

Take a look at the switches.

i never saw this reply for some reason. But. I still havent had a chance to look at it. I'm off saturday so i'll hopefully get some stuff done. It is trying to do something ,cause the RPMS drop, the lights flicker and all when its trying to go down. i think its locked up or something, so we'll see.

I replaced the driver window regulator with an ebay unit. It lasted about a month. We just pulled it apart and it seems the motor burned up. It looks like it burnt because the window is way too hard to move up and down plus dirt got into the regulator tracks. Maybe the side tracks (felt covered rubber where the felt wore off) are shot. Don't know what to do about those.

Anybody been down this road already?

i just fixed this today actually. my window got tore out of the tracks and ended up on the wrong side of the weather stripping stuff, the felt/rubber that you're talking about. it was tough to get it to go back in right just because it was really kinked and worn out, and i know my windows both hit spots where they slow down. maybe it's making the motor work harder and burning it up quicker? maybe it was just a bad part too, it's hard to tell.

hmm.. How hard is it to get the switch panel off? i'm probally just gonna pull the door tommorrow and see whats up

The switch panel is the easy part. Take a small flat blade screw driver and carefully insert it under the bottom edge and pry up.

About the drag on the window. I have come to the conclusion after feeling the window gasket on my '07 Toyota pickup that I need to get some silicone grease to rub in. The Toyota has a definite slippery substance in it and I think it's silicone lube. I'm also going to remove all excess grease from the new regulator I'm ordering to keep it from holding too much dirt.

Well i pulled it, and broke the clips that hold the bottom portion of the switch on but i had already started wigging on stuff before.. someone left the meter on last time they used it so i didnt even get to check the motor plug. i'll pull it out again shortly anyway.

Take some pics.. and do a nice write up:).. this is a major common problem, and I know alot of ppl would appreciate it.

I have a similar situation... I have a 97 2 door GT, my passenger window only goes up from my driver door window switch. So I figured it was the passenger switch...WRONG! I changed it 3 times and still won't go up from the passenger side, only from the driver side window switch. Has any one else had this issue or that can help? Thanks!
