Ok so I'm looking for a higher output alternator.

I found this link on gpona Grand Prixs Of North America • View topic - looking for a High output alternator

About half way down a guy posted a link to an alternator that was used on police package impalas. He claims that it will fit a grand prix.

I found the same part number on rock auto for like 125 bucks instead of 300 on site that was on the link.



Will this fit my 2002 grand prix gt? (http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.php) if you do a part# search for 10344573

I don't think it will...

I thought those were clutch'd alternators and the 97-03's weren't...

Not sure.

All I know is you can get a 99-03 Alternator off of any WBody and it should fit.
 
Well I just bought one from rock auto.


I should have it in a few days and will let everyone know if it works or not. Pure2sin looked into it and thinks it should work fine.

I sure hope it does !
 
I just looked at the pictures that were provided on rock auto and it appears that the plugs might be different?


The plug looks like the same shape/size but mounts differently in the alternator. Does anyone know if the wires or plug is different between the an 02 impala alternator and a 02 gp alternator?
 
Well its confirmed. You can use a 125 amp alternator from the 00-05 police impala's in a 02 gp gt. It matched up perfectly. Wiring harness is in a different spot, and so is the power wire but it still works.

The only problem is, it didn't solve my problem......


Thought I would let everyone know though in case you wanted to upgrade to a larger amp alternator and didn't want to spend a ton of money. I got this one off of rockauto for like 140 bucks.

Oh and I wanna thank Pure2sin for helping me. He did some research and told me it would fit when others said it wouldn't. He was right....
 
125 Amp is not a high output alternator, what is the stock Amps on a GP?

I swear if I could change the alternator I have for sale to fit a gp then that would make me so happy. It does 195 Amps, was used on a series 1 3800 engine
