Will stock tranny hold up to turbo.

I have read some threads on here and they don't really answer any question I have so I thought I would start another one. The zzp Turbo kit I am looking at as everything I need! You dont have to tap into the oil so thats a plus! Here is what I have found on the "hot side" piping is a new cross over (That comes with the kit) and a down pipe (that comes with the kit) and welding it to the stock exhaust And the "cold side" Im prolly going to go with the m90 block off plate/intercooler and the only pipe I will need is from the turbo to the TB. And on the exhaust manifolds I was thinkin about getting front and rear P-Logs. Since they are a little bit more turbo friendly. The question I have is that this "set up" says it should lay down 400hp or more depending on tune and other basics. I don't really wanna push my luck on a stock tranny. I know there is people who are running S/C GP with alot of hp and the tranny won't hold up. But turbo power don't hit all at once like a s/c so will the stock tranny hold up to the power? The set up will be going in to a 07 GT S/C. I know I will need to put basic supporting mods on the tranny but not really sure what! I guess I just really wanna know what I need to do and if its a MUST or just something that wouldn't hurt to do. I will have around 10K to work with. I just wanna make something thats different then most people see around here and something that I could take to the track just to kill time and have fun.
 


I think the person best to answer that question would be Trannyman95. You could PM him and ask him if you like. He builds an awful lot of 4T65E's and in my opinion is the nations best transmission builder and would know exactly what you need to handle that kind of power safely and reliably.

Truthfully, if you have that kind of money to put in to it, you should be able to cover even a tranny build up. I would think you could come out spending less than that.

But PM Trannyman and he will be able to tell you all you need to know about what you will need on the transmission end.
 
Turbos are worse than blowers IMO. They seem to destroy stock chains......but yea trannymans the man to ask. But general consensus is that you need a tranny if pushing 400+ hp.
 
You'll need a 1'' chain for you're transmission. May as well put a hardned input shaft and the whole works. Sounds like you want to go fast. So thats what i would do.


On another note... Do you have a tuner? Because you will need one. Enless you want to spend a lot of money on custom tunes.

Turbos are worse than blowers IMO.

That's because turbos make more power. However, at the same power levels a turbo is more tranny friendly. During launches it has to spool where as a supercharger makes the torque instantly. This large amount of instant torque is what leads to the death of many trannies.
 


I am not wanting ALOT of power. Just the base 400 is fine for me. I am going to buy my own HP Turner. Another problem I ran into is the fact it will not tune my 07 so I will have to change to a 05 ECM. I have read where people did it to the 06 and some 07 and they worked just had some problems with the gas reading and I think one guy had a problem with changing the shift pattern. So...I guess im going to go 50/50 and hope it works! lol if not then I guess when I blow it up I will get a G8 GT LOL
 
I disagree with a turbo being more tranny friendly. They both tear stuff up, just different parts. But that just my 2 cents.
 


Ya, but I want to be different! lol. and money tree no...lol its called credit! LOL. I talked to a local boy about the tranny and he said he would do my basic work for a good price. but when it comes time I will for sure be asking you guys first!
 
Okay, So I ran into another problem...and its a stupid one! For some reason I had it stuck in my head I have the L67....well I have the L32 and im sure most of you new that! lol! Well...I went back to the ZZP website and the turbo kits does not list the L32. I was thinking its all pretty much the same. Am I wrong? Will I have to go with a custom turbo setup? PLEASE tell me im wrong!!!
 
Fit and form would be the same, but getting it tuned would be the hard part. Not sure what kind of tuning support is out there for 07s.

Actually, the M90 block off plate might not work unless they make one for Gen V M90s.

O and Im going to call ZZP monday to find out if the block off plate will work and ask some other questions! I will post what I find out.
