Will an LCD radio work in a 2006 GXP?

My husband just bought me a 2006 GXP and it is nice. My husband is a car dealer and bought this at auction wrecked with less than 72k miles, so it even be nicer finished :-) I've been looking on the Internet about the GXP's and noticed pictures that there are some that have LCD radio/navigation. I wonder if I could find one, if it would work correctly as in steering wheel buttons and if anymore is needed for navigation to work?

Sure will. You just have to get the correct modules for the onstar/door chimes to work and then another module to maintain the steering wheel control and then program them.

Would those modules be within the radio though? Onstar button is under rear view mirror already on the GXP. The LCD radio has on star in the radio unit? I was hoping that since the LCD radio comes in some GXP's, that there is already steering wheel control wiring included. Now, I'm confused

Sorry i misread what you wanted to do.

If your wanting just going to try to find a stock nav let's say out of a wrecked GXP or so then you wouldn't need those modules. However you would have to take the car down to the dealer for them to unlock the radio and won't require the modules I was suggesting. The stock navs don't pop up to often and usually when they do they sell for $800+ or so and then you have to make sure it's complete (includes nav cd, antenna etc)

If you wanted to go with a aftermarket head unit that had nav or so you would need to purchase a GM0S-04 harness that allows the door chimes and onstar to keep working. Without it, it usually will flashes security warnings. Now if you also wanted to keep lets say your steering wheel controls you would purchase a steering wheel module for whatever brand of headunit you want (ex: if you buy a alpine headunit you'll buy a steering wheel module for alpine headunit)

Let me know if I made sense

I did find 1 for 650, but I thought maybe that was a bit much. I may need to rethink that now. I will eventually get one because i will look until i get one lol. And it will have to come out of grand prix. What dealer can unlock it since there is no more Pontiac? GM/Chevrolet?

yes

I always preferred aftermarket over oem nav units. Oem nav always seems so updated and expensive if you happen to find one being parted out.
