Will an 02 GTP trans go in a 99 GTP?

Hello and thanks in advance, I can't seem to find specifically what I'm looking for in the answer department on this. I hope its a simple question.

I have a 2002 GTP and a 1999 GTP, both stock coupes with healthy engines and transaxles. I may want to swap the 2002 trans into the 1999 in the future, it is a fresh rebuild sitting in a wrecked car and the 99 has high miles and gets driven.

My question is this- the "performance shift" feature. What happens to that? The 02 doesn't have that and the 99 does. Do I need to keep the 99 valve body if I swap to the 02 trans? I actually prefer how the 99 transmission operates and would like to keep the feature.

Anybody know this one? I did search but became more confused. I don't have interchange info that answers it, maybe my trans guy will know if not. I would appreciate anyone who can point me in the right direction, thanks again.

Only issue is tranny lines, just use the ones off the donor. Oh and use the car original injectors they are different.

Lines, check. Thats easy enough. What about the "performance shift" feature, will I still have that after the swap with just the 02 trans and lines? Thanks.

Naw, I'm in the other top corner of the state, by Fayetteville.

Hey on the injectors- you mean if I swap engines and all, thats all the difference? That would also be nice to know, the 02 has a bunch less miles.

Yep they changed injectors 200ish. To run them youll have to have the pcm tuned. And perf shift is in the cm. Im axtually gonna have perf shift on my topswapped l36 swapped 97 monte when im don :)

Changed injectors, what??

The L67 didn't change anything during 99-02 with injectors it wasn't until 2004 when it got replaced by the L32. There isnt even a change from 97-03 with injectors on the supercharged cars, perhaps a small change in the a PCM with some minor numbers, but not the injectors themselves.

2002 has PS built into the PCM, they got rid of the button in 2001 though the function is still there. Its "selected" based off what I assume is throttle % and what speed your at, aswell as a few small things.

All you have to do is swap the trans line fittings into the 99 car if you are using a 99 radiator. If you swap the 2002 rad into the 99, then everything will be a bolt in. Then run the 99 PCM and you will off and running.

Excellent, the perf shift is in the module. Thats what I needed to know, much obliged to ya.

If I change engines, can I just use the 99 injectors and leave the PCM alone? I'll get into modding once I have things where I want them. Top swapping the old GT is tempting.

It is a small world indeed, and I appreciate the help, l67ss. Best o' luck with the Monte. They sure do have some sharp ladies down in Fayetteville, its part of the natural beauty here!

Ah. that makes sense. Figured it was something like that. I like the way the 99 shifts at part throttle with PS on better.

Got it. Thanks for the clarification, this is real helpful and now I know. The 02 rad may be damaged so this helps me plan.

Sorry, those posts got messy when I tried to get fancy. I'll get the hang of this, hope y'all can make out what i mean.

To clarify more, and to hopefully not confuse.

If you run the 2002 trans, use the trans cooler lines from it and just swap the 2 fittings for the rad. Or you can use the 2002 transmission, the 99 cooler lines and swap both fittings on the transmission. Both are simple, you just have to pick one.

Understood and thanks again. I'll probably just nab the lines and fittings off the wrecked 02. If I decide to swap engines too, I'll hunt down specifics on any other conflicts that may exist. Just couldn't find the trans answer.
